Can someone be with you in the room prior to surgery? If so--help me choose who!!

I was wondering if someone is allowed to wait with you in the room prior to the surgery at St. Vincent's?  If someone is allowed, how do I choose who?  I would prefer my best friend be there with me, but I know my mother will expect that she gets to be there with me.  But my mom makes me MORE nervous and is very nosy in general.  HELP!!

Maddie,

I had my mom and dad, and my husband waiting with me in the room before surgery.  So you could have both of them with you, if you wanted.  But if you're mom makes you nervious you may want to just have your best friend there.

Before surgery I don't think they care how many people are with you. I had my husband, daughter, niece, mom & her husband!

They dont care who is in there.  When you check in they will take only you back and get you ready.  Basically a nurse asks you a bunch of questions, then she will give you a shot of the Lovenox, get your gown on and then they will have your family or friends come back and wait with you.  Your surgeon and the anesthesiologist will come back and talk to you, then a surgery nurse will come get you when it is time and your family goes back to the waiting room.  I walked into the operating room and laid down on the table and within 5 min. I was asleep. Jenny
