how much weight will i lose
I am 5'2 and I weighed 307 the day I was released from the hospital.
I asked my surgeon for the first time at my follow up last week what is a realistic goal for me to set for myself and she said that her goal for me is 150-160. I then asked her if 140 (which is high range of normal) would be realistic for me to set and she said that anything is possible with hard work pretty much. :) Sooo I'd say we could both probally get into normal range. Everything I seen online was saying based on the typical 70% excess weight loss statistics that I wouldn't get below 180 and that kinda scared me. I'd still be Obese!!!
I think it really just depends on how hard we work and then when our body is done. Unfortunately my body doesn't listen to me very well. I think I'd be tickled pink just to make it to Onederland :) I have already just bout gotten rid of my diabetes and my GERD is gone! I want to be healthier and if I get that and not necessarily hit my goal then I think I'll be okay with that too. :) Surely 180 lbs is easier on my body then 300, ya know?
I know the stats say 70 percent.... I was willing to go for even that. I firmly believe if I hadnt had my surgery I would be totally bed ridden if not dead today !!! So 70% can really change your life. I also firmly believe that 70% is for ppl that just have the surgery and ride on its waves....u do what your dr tells you and u exercise and diet.....U will make it to your goal. Ive seen to many ppl do it. Just have to totally change your life and live and breathe your drs instructions.
I was so unhealthy at near 400 lbs that 70 would have meant the difference between me being dead and me being the healthier 200 lb person I am today. I can walk, shop and even work a 5 day week now. I often out walk my family and co-workers that wt less and are smaller sizes and many are even younger than I am... Its funny to hear them ask me to slow down... for so many yrs I would ask my senior citizen parents to please slow down and wait for me to catch up.
I didnt do this surgery to be a supermodel but...but to be healthy. I am off of all my meds(heart, blood pressure etc) I do take the vitamins that my surgeon has me on. I am so grateful for this surgery and all that if has done for me... If I never lost another lb it would be the best thing I ever did for myself. Just in the last month or so Ive hit the place where Im no longer obese and Im now just plain ole overweight!!! My ankles and fingers didnt swell any this past summer. I used to have to keep my legs up all the times and rub the fluid out of them. I couldnt shave them because it was to hard to bend over that far. I cant even list all the amazing WOW moments Ive had in the last 15 months.
Speaking of wow moments...please let me take the time to share with u one I had just yesterday. Ive had a pair of jeans Ive been saving since I was 20 yrs old. I was in college and I was about 160 lbs. Im now 206 today. I found them when I was cleaning the closet for the clothing exchange....I coudnt get in them back in July when we moved here but I fit in them yesterday. It was so exciting. You may wt more becouse all the excesss skin I have wts more but I have less fat than I did at that age. I know these jeans are so out of style and I have no idea where I would wear them to....but u can bet your sweet hinny I'll be wearing my stone washed colored jeans somewhere.....LOL And DARN proud to be wearing them!!!!

I am 5'2" and my high weight just before my consult was 282 lb. I am only a couple of weeks from being two years out and i am down to 128 lb. I went through periods where i didnt lose anything for weeks and yes i was discouraged but it started again every time. I have lost 6 lb in the last couple of months so my only advise is take those vitimans and drink tha****er and dont stop moving. I walk and try to be as active as i can. i dont work out at a gym or anything i just stay busy. the more i lose the better i feel and i enjoy that i feel like doing something all the time.
You can do it....... Lets face it we are all better off even if we dont reach our goal because we are healthier. losing a little is better than not at all.
Good Luck to you,
Carla
Amen to all the comments from others. Keeping exercises in your life and active will get you past the 70% I believe. Yes you do reach levels where you may not loose for a week or more and get discouraged. That is the devil working trying to convince you can't do this.
I rode my bike 45 miles Saturday and it was HARD to do but necessary to gain health and personal goals to reach.
The last 2 miles I wanted to call the wife to bring the truck to pick me up but I fought it off. There is a hill 2 blocks long to climb on the road to get home and it looked like Everest to me.
I feel the last 10-20 lbs to reach a healthy BMI may be loose skin from the weight lose and will deal with that if needed.

2 Chronicles 16:9
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou has done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
