Hair Loss

Well, it has happened.. the one thing I dreaded the most..   Losing my hair.    It started about 3 weeks ago.  I use to wash my hair everyday, but now I skip a day just so I don't see all that hair in my comb when I comb it out.  On the off days it's not too bad because I can get by with a bit of spray and "finger" comb it.   How long does this last?

I am not sure how long it lasts, but have you tried taking Biotin.  It is a vitamin for hair and nails.  It supposedly works really well.  I have already started taking it before surgery.

I had my surgery about 4 days before you did and I, too, am experiencing the hair loss. I really started noticing it last week. I had about 6.5 inches cut off last week, partly to help with the clean up. I can't stand seeing all that hair on the floor after I blow it dry! When I met with the nutritionist they recommended Biotin. I haven't started taking it. I have really thick hair and am thinking it might not be too bad to lose some!

Sweetie, I had my surgery in February.....started thinning in June and by Christmas was back to my thick hair. I am waiting to see if it thins again after this plastic surgery....typically it begins at 3~4 months from surgery and lasts 2~3 months. Take the biotin and your nutritional supplements, keep up the protein and fluids and it will come back.  Try a shorter fluffy doo and your won't notice itas much. I could tell but no one could tell by just looking at me from my style. Hang in there! Hugs! Marianne

Thanks everyone for your comments...  Is biotin OTC or is that a Rx?

Biotin is a vitamin, OTC. It didn't do anything for me. I had thinning hair from about 3-6 months, then it started coming back in again. Now I have all kinds of hair again. It does come back. I remember being upset too, but now that I'm past it, I wouldn't trade my RNY for not having had hair loss.

I finally found the Biotin Shampoo.... had to order it from Amazon.... and I have been taking the tablets for about a week now but have not seen much of a difference.  How long does it take this stuff to work?  I have had thinning for a month now and at this rate, I may not have hair before long..  I get about a handful every time I wash and comb it. ;(

it last anywhere from 3-5 months you wont notice a change real fast but it does slow down, and it does grow back. and from what everyone says it ends up being just like before. i had my surgery in april noticed hair loss in august , its still falling out in hands full but i had really really thick hair to start with and have noticed that i have a little new hair growth starting. i too cut 8 inches off my hair right after surgery and it helps  with the cleaning up when you brush, or wash your hair. just keep taking the biotain.  vicki

Vicki, Would u wear that orange outfit I wore to eat the night Andy went with us...I forget the name of the place and I cant believe that because I love that place....errrr  I know u have pictures of us from that night... I think its the name of a bird and its near Caselton mall....if so let me know and I'll bring it next sat...its a 1x tall.  I know its kinda bright and not many ppl are as bold and daring as I am to wear such a thing.  However, I paid alot of money for it and only got to wear it like 3 times.  No since me hanging on to it if u can use it.
