Its my understanding that the distal rny the pouch re-attached further down the small intestines.  You are less likely to regain wt back yrs after surgery becouse your small intestines are so much shorter...so if u are someone who would do alot of implusive eating in the future...this may be the one for you....its more closely related to the DS.   However, you also have to be diligent on taking supplements and vitamins...becouse u are less likely to absorb calories and fat u are also not able to absorb as many nutrients ...  Since u have less intestines you have less time for things to be absorbed.... I hope this makes it clearer if not ask more questions???

I chose the regular RUNY because of the side effects of the extended one- it causes you to "dump" more -and I sit on the potty enough, as it is!I know someone who had it and has a real problem now, and can't seem to get better. She's lost too much weight, and can't work any longer.I don't mean this happens to everyone who has it- but it does happen!!  For me, with IBS, it wasn't an option. I would definately call the Dieticians/Drs. office, and see what your Dr. recommends- mine definatley said "no". Also, it seems to be done on poeple who  have a greater BMI. Whatever you decide, I hope you know we are behind you 100%!!! (((hugs))) Ellen

Thanks you guy's. You made alot of since to me so now i have something to chew on for a while and then talk to Dr. Cahill about this. I think maybe I should just stick to the regular RNY.  Again thanks for the advice.
