Pain medicine
I was curious what does Dr Gupta give her patients for pain medicine to take home and right after surgery in the hospital? Do you have the pain pump or do they just give you shots?
Also, when taking vitamins the tablets your new stomach can break down, is that correct? It cannot break down capsules and caplets, correct? I am confused.

Dr Gupta and Dr Cacucci strike me as being very alike in their doctoring skills and sooo I'd assume that Gupta probally gives Lortab elixir or pills to send you home and Id say No to the pain pump because the only patients I seen while in St Vs with pain pumps were Dr Inman and Dr E's patients. They gave me Dilaudid in my PICC/IV line. Which is good stuff once you get past the headache it causes to begin with!! Anyways hope this helps even though it's not really a definate answer.
I had a PCA pump with dilodid (sp) while in the hospital but it wasn't enough for me (remember I had more done then you will be having done, damn liver anyways lol ) I also got dilodid iv pushes, and liquid lortab. When going home I got lortab pills, but if I was you I would definetly ask for it in liquid form it taste really bad, but much easier then crunching up the pills and taking them (taste even more nasty lol) but I did have dr. Gupta either but just thought I would share what I had gotten.
Im amazed at the pain meds u all were on post op. Did u guys have open rny's instead of Laps? I got shots the first day in the hospital. I still have to bottle of lortab they sent me home with...I took about 5 or 6 doses...its not even 1/3 gone. Never even had a refill. I had Dr Cacucci...shes excellent...I havent had any pain or problems once that darn drain came out.
As for vitamins...u will take liquid or chewables after surgery. I take the flinstones chewables and calcium liquid. No caplets or enteric coated tablets right off.

Hi Jenny,
I had Dr. E and he had me on a PCA. I had Lortab Elixir to take home it was my choice liquid or pill. I preferred the liquid because it was easier to take less when I didn't feel too much pain. When you are in St. V's if you are feeling too much pain tell the nurse. I found that they were very responsive to my pain needs. Right after my surgery my PCA dose was not getting the job done and I let them know. They took care of the pain promptly so that I was never in extreme discomfort.
Good luck and don't worry!
Jeff
Dr. Gupta (and most of the other doctors) puts you on liquid loratab. When you get the script filled, ask the pharmacist to put some flaving in it. That will help in getting it to go down ALOT.
