Vitamins and Suppliments

What does the drs and nutritionists say about vitamin C? I like to take that in the fall and winter, to ward off colds, and wanted to start taking it now, but if the nutritionist say different, then I will wait. Also, I know that I will loose hair after surgery, and someone suggested to start taking Biotin now.......will that affect the lab work before surgery? If not, how soon should I start taking it? I would really like to get myself into the habit of the vitamins and suppliments as soon as possible, so it is easier once I do have surgery.

I have started taking Biotin, but I have already had my lab work done.  I would call the Dr's office and ask them if Biotin will affect your lab work.  I had been taking a multi-vit. and calcium and just added the Biotin. 

Biotin should not negatively affect your labs.  Vitamin C can't hurt either and actually helps speed the healing process.  Ask your NUT to be sure, but vitamins shouldn't hurt.  Fish oils and Vitamin E supplements can contribute to bleeding during surgery as well as some herbal supplements, so be cautious with those.  The surgeon will usually ask you not to take herbals, etc (including drinking green tea) for 2 weeks prior to surgery.

Hey there. :)  You may or may not loose hair. I haven't. *knock on wood* Not everyone looses hair. I do hope you are one of the lucky ones. I take Biotin and am adding Potassium too. I've thought of fish oil, but I saw how big the pills were, so I'm leery of taking them. Vitamin C is another thing I take. I do hate pills though. I did buy an alarm wris****ch and it chimes every hour and so far I've been in a place where I can pop a vitamin in and a swallow of some beverage. I hope this works at work too. lol...

I hope that I don't lose too much......my hair is already thin enough without the thought of making it thinner! I will try the idea of the watch timer. Thanks!

ok this is unrelated but are you really having your surgery on Christmas? Just seemed kinda strange since hospitals are like ghost towns on Christmas. just wonderin....mick

No, I am not having surgery on Christmas. I don't know my date yet, but I will be finding out soon.  I put Christmas Day on there, because this surgery is something I have been wanting for so long, and my dr. has said it will happen before the end of the year. I have made it as my Christmas present to myself, because of how long it has taken me! Thanks for asking tho. I have my nut and psych classes on Oct 9th, so shortly after that is when I will be changine the date to a REAL surgery date!
