I had Dr K I really liked him. I got along great right after surgery went home. Then I started vomiting the next day. I called the Dr on call he advised me to not eat or drink anything but I continued to vomit so I called back the next am. The on call Dr then had me come into St. V's ER. They did an MRI and found that I had a sm bowel obstruction. Dr K came into see me they placed an NG tube and we waited for my bowel to open up apparently it (the new limb) didn't wake up from the anestetic (sp). I have gotten along fine since then. He was very good to me answered all my questions. I would recomend him.  Cheryl

Heidi, You might want to contact Gail Owens. She had so many problems that she finally had to have another surgeon to try to undo some of the damage that was done. I'm hoping that Gail contacts you...but if she doesn't, look her up on here and 'contact' her. There are some surgeons that you hear wonderful things about and every once in a while someone will have strange or repeated complications. Then there are a few who you hear horror stories about and every once in a while hear something good about. From the posts on here, Dr. K has been of the latter, not former. Cheryl is one of the few people that I have seen say something good about him...but even she had complications (even though he nor his procedure was at fault that she knows of).  Sherri

As I said previously... Dr K is a good surgeon, extremely thorough when he is doing the procedure... I think his bed side manner leaves much to be desired and I also think that if you have no or very little knowledge about medicine and your current health you need to find a different surgeon that will spoon feed you through the process because he won't and will not. After surgery he leaves the decision about whether or not to continue to take your medicines up to your family dr... which is fine but if I hadn't been actively testing my blood sugar and blood pressure when I got home and had continued taking my medicines I would've ended up in the hospital... because my levels were normal and have been normal since surgery... i had just had surgery i wasn't goign to go to the family dr the next day... that I didn't like... His bariatric coordinator is the biggest b#$&% I've ever talked to on the phone and I hope I never meet her in a dark alley... I have been very lucky in my journey and haven't had any problems. I chose him as a surgeon because I know 3 people outside of this board that had him and look fanstastic and did wonderful... they are 4 and 5 years out and are still doing fine... once I got on the board I saw that there are some people that have had him that have had some serious complications... One died last year (there were extenuating cir****tances however that I found out God bless her soul) and then Gail has had an ongoing battle with this and is still not completely recovered and he took a very blasee(sp) attitude toward what was going on with her... Complications are a risk that you take with any surgeon however and most of the time it's not the surgeons fault when we have them it's our body not cooperating...

Again, if you feel comfortable with him and feel that he's competent... if you are good with managing your own meds after surgery and have enough knowledge to do so, and if you have researched the surgery, know what to expect, and have a good basic knowledge of medicine and biology I think he's a wonderful surgeon.. He made me a DVD of my surgery and took pictures so I could inspect the work!! HA HA!! but his bedside manner is about non-existent...

Hi Heidi, First let me just say- No matter what you decide I wish you the best and hope for a speedy and smooth recovery! I hope that you continue to research whatever surgeon/surgery that you choose to be the best for you! It is so important that YOU are comfortable with both, for yourself, not for anyone else! In case you are not aware, I am the surgery angel for Gail Owens, as mentioned above! I have been following her journey throughout the last year and hope that you can take the time to at least give her a call and speak with her! That being said, i hope that you realize that not all surgeons/surgeries are best for everyone and that complications may arise no matter who the surgeon or what type of surgery that you have! Please just be careful and research to the best of your ability and be as prepared as possible for when your journey begins!~ I wish you the best and encourage to follow your dreams! Hugz Dawn please contact me privately and I will forward your info to Gail or I can give you her info- please don't post it on her though as I wouldn't want anyone to get your information that it is not intended for!

I had Dr. Kaderabek and I have been extremely pleased.  He is extremely factual, but not super friendly - but I would rather have someone that explained everything and knew what they were doing, rather than being my friend, but that is just me. I have not had any complications or anything and I am almost 2 weeks out.  I had the Lap RNY.  I think there are complications with any surgeon and different people need different things in their surgeons.  Just make sure you are comfortable.  If you have doubts, you should choose someone different - but for me - he was great.
