i had my consultation yesterday with dr kaderabek and found out because of 3 previous abdominal surgeries that i will have to have an open procedure. also since it is an open procedure he wants to do a vertical banded gastric bypass. has any1 had this procedure??? how did you do?? is the pain worse with an open procedure??

I havent had surgery yet, but I have had a hysterectomy that was open and had lap exploratory surgery and the open surgery was worse on me, but that doesnt mean it will be for you.  Good luck!

My DS was open, and it wasn't that bad.  Just take your pain meds as directed and you'll be fine :)   Too bad Dr K doesn't do the DS, cause I'm all for that one!  lol There is a VBG board here on OH...  http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/VBG/ Cheers!

Disregard my post on your FOBI Pouch one... I was going to have this one... sorry got them confused... and he switched at the last minute and did a Lap Roux En Y... it's basically a banded Roux en Y which will make you slow your eating WAY down for the rest of your life... it's treated the same nutritionally as a roux en y you just have to be on soft foods for 2 weeks longer than a regular roux en y patient after surgery. at least that's what my book said that I got... Dr K didn't tell me I was just getting the Roux en Y until 1.5 days after I had had surgery and he had already done it... I guess i didn't get much say in that... but he didn't want to open me up so I'm thankful for that... Remember everyone used to get this open... you have a great chance for a hernia with that, but if you have to have it open anyway might as well get the cadillac right?
