I haven't had my Nut class yet and my surgery is on October 9th.  I wanted to know if I should start giving up coffee now.  I know I can't have any sodas, so I've started drinking alot of water, but didn't know if you have to give up all caffiene. Thanks

i was told NO caffiene. #1...it dehydrates you and staying hydrated post op is way important. #2...it stimulates your appetite and you definitely dont want to make yourself feel hungry.

Thanks Heidi.  I'll start on giving up caffiene now.  Will be hard...already gave up cigarettes!  At least I won't have withdrawal symptoms post op. Thanks again Robin

yes by all means give it up or go to decaf. i was a big time coffee drinker and dont miss it at all now.

Yeah, I gave up my caffeine early too, so I could get adjusted. I didn't want to deal with that at the same time as other post-op issues. 

Hi, Robin.  I found that I had a headache for a few days after I quit drinking sodas with caffeine........only because my body was going thru withdrawal symptoms! Now that it has been over a week since I have had a soda, or any caffeine, my headaches have gone away. The water helps flush all the bad stuff away, and when better to start than now!

Lachelle,  I didn't have any coffee this morning and only plan on having 1 Diet Coke.  Boy, it's hard to get going in the morning!

Hi,  By all means do give up the caffine. I know it is rough, but the rewards are worth it! I had a RUNY Oct. 25, 05, and gave up all caffine 2 months before it, and don't miss it at all. You'll do fine, if you can give up the cigarettes, you can do this- just remember to STAY OFF ALL CASFFINE AND NICOTINE- YOUR HEALTH DEPENDS ON IT! (((hugs))) Ellen

Thanks Ellen.  I've got to find some caffiene free tea so I can have something hot in the morning.  I think that's what I miss...the warm drink.  It sure helps to have other people to talk to about this kind of stuff.  My husband and kids are very supporting, Thank God, but they haven't had to give up things that are so addicting.  I guess it's good I don't gamble...lololol!!!
