Gallbladder
Dawn,
I googled IOC, intraoperative cholangiogram.

It's my understanding that it's a technique which helps prevent common bile duct injury while having your gall bladder removed laproscopically...not a separate surgery.
I'm sure that many surgeons use this technique but only tells the patient what they really want/need to hear..they are having their gall bladder out. Your's just told you more info than many want to know...lol.
Good luck with your surgery. When I had mine out, I had been in pain for 24/7 for 10 days so it was a huge relief to get it done. Post-op, I hurt some but nothing compared to pre-op. I'm sure you and M&M's Dawn will both do terrific!

Actually the cholangiogram is used by some surgeons in the lap gallbladder removal to make sure the stones have not moved into the duct itself. It's just a precaution some surgeons take, not many do it anymore unless they have reason to think some have. It is used with a contrast medium (dye) and a portable xray machine and it just makes sure everything moves through ok. It doesn't take long but you may see the charge from radiology. Good luck with your surgery...Mick
