My baby boy has a prolapsed colon!

Has anyone ever heard of a prolapsed colon????  My son is 10 years old.  He came to me this past evening troubled about his bottom.  After showing me I almost fell to the floor.  His poor bottom looked like his colon was hanging out!!!!  I took him to the ER and they said it was a prolapsed colon which could be from straining when going to the bathroom.  However, they put him on stool softeners and told me to get to a pediatric gi doctor asap to have a scope done on him just to make sure there is no tumor or somthing else going on that might be causing this problem!!!!!!!!!!!  They could have ripped my heart out.  This poor fella already thinks he is cursed.  He has ADHD and a very mild form of Tourettes.  He said last night that they should just let him die because all he has is bad luck!  Just last week he had to take a sleep study.  If it's not one thing, it's another.  It is just so hard when your child is hurt and you can't do anything about it!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, sorry for rambling.  If you have heard of this or have any information, please let me know.  Thanks. xo Claudette

Claudette, Oh my goodness! I haven't got a clue about problems with the colon, but my heart goes out to your son. I hope the Ped GI can get him in right away to scope him so that whatever has caused this can be corrected. Is your son on any form of anti-depressants? You may want to talk to the Ped that is handling his ADHD about this. Depression can be worse than the physical problems many times...especially to the young.  Thank you for sharing this with us. Sherri: Thanks for the support.  I couldn't imagine sharing my information with or seeking advise from a greater group of people!    He will be going back to the neurologist in two weeks.  I am going to talk to him about something for depression.

That sounds like a good idea. My boy has ADHD, but also a mood disorder. He takes meds for both. They help quite a bit. 

 

Claudette, I'm so sorry to read about your son.  I have a 3 yr old son and I know how badly it hurts when your baby boy is sick and there's nothing you can do.  My heart goes out to your son and to you as well.  I'll keep you both in my prayers. Take care,

Hi Claudette,  Girl, my heart goes out ot you & your son! What a scare! I can only imagine your worry, but hopefully the Ped Gi will be able to quickly solve his problem. I have had IBS all of my life, but never heard of anything like this.  I am keeping you all in my prayers & am here for you if you need me. (((hugs))) Ellen

My daughter has Tourette's, obsessive compulsive disorder, behavior disorder & depression.  It is very difficult to go through this.  I think you son definetly needs an anti-depressant.  As far as the prolapsed colon, have you taken him to the GI doc yet?  Poor guy, that cant be easy to go through.  Hope things get better for you.

Sweetheart, You and your son are in my prayers.  Poor little guy, I can't imagine how scared he was.  Do talk to the Dr about his meds.  Ritalin and other drugs for ADHD can cause depression.  It's a side effect they don't talk much about.  My son was on it for a while and became suicidal.  We had to take him off of it.
