Well I wake up Monday AM had breakfast and started out on a Bike ride.  Every other Sat. I go to a mens meeting at Orchard Park church at 106th and College area.  I noticed that the Monon trail was 3 blocks from the church. I live on the west side of Indy 465 and 10th street area so I checked out the route and tried it.  10th to the Canal tow path and that to Broad Ripple and the Monon and to 106th.  17.8 miles in 1 hour and 45 minutes.  I was pleased and will try it this next Saturday.  This is the first long ride for me since surgery and I waited only 15 minutes to do the return trip.  To say the least that was to soon.  I only made it back 16 miles and called for the wife to bring the truck to take me home. I burnt 3000 calories on the ride and later in the evening did our usual 2 mile neighborhood walk.   If you have not biked or walked the towpath and or the Monon DO IT!  Hundreds of people out doing their thing and it was a great feeling of accomplishment. Anyone else lives west Indy and wants to do a bike ride email me. http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/invitation/email/accept.m b?senderPk.pkValue=158647&unitSystemPkValue=2&episodePk.pkVa lue=3844651 The link above I hope will take you to the route I used. E,  WOW~~ thats fantastic!!!What an experience for you- just many fo "firsts" you'll achieve! I use to bike before my back surgeries & loved it- now, walking is my method of movement- so I really admire others getting out there on their "wheels"! Next time be sure to give yourself atleast alittle longer to recoup- did you take plenty of water to drink?  Also,I know someone who had surgery also, & always takes a protien shake/snack to have at the 1/2 way point- before heading back, to "fuel" himslef for the trip back- sure has saved him alot of problems from overexhertion/protien loss. Just a suggestion.  I am rooting for many more "HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU!!" (((hugs))) Ellen

I had water but it got warm very quickly.  I will freeze the bottles half full before next Sat. and that should help keep it cooler. I found myself gulping and that was not good.  Paid the price later that day.  One of the reasons I walked.  It too****il 9AM today for the pouch to feel better. Live and learn. I will try to take Cheerios or other snack to get energy.  I will have a 4 hour meeting that will allow a cool down and rest. E

That is SO awesome that you were able to do that!!  Riding a bike is one thing that I am eagerly awaiting after my surgery!  The feeling of riding a bike is great--even when you aren't going all that fast, it feels so fast!!!  GREAT JOB!
