I am just curious after you have surgery how do you get effects of prescription meds.  If your body doesnt absorb vitamins, it wouldnt absorb the prescription.  So, say I need to be put on antibiotics, are they even going to help?

If they put you on antibiotics most drs use liquid you absorb them better, and most of the time if they can they will put on liquid meds... it's up to the dr on whether or not you even stay on your prescription drugs after surgery. I was on 2 blood pressure meds and 2 diabetic meds and i got taken off all of them by the time i left the hospital. It's really up to the dr, but i got put on antibiotics and they were liquid...

Ditto on what Jess said...but if they don't have whatever in liquid form, ask for it in tablet form. It's the capsules/jel-caps that doesn't absorb. When getting liquid meds from the pharmacy, ask them to put flavoring in it. Walgreens & CVS has it...not sure about the others. Most of the liquids meds is horrible tasting. I have found that their grape flavoring makes it alot easier to go down. Sherri

I left the hospital at St. V off of my blood pressure meds. So I don't know how t hose would change. I do know that my depression meds had to be increased over the last year to remain effective. I would guess because I'm not absorbing as much? But me and my psychiatrist got those increased, and I'm doing fine. It's all worth it.
