Long drive after surgery

I'm wondering about something.... I was told that I'll have my surgery and if all goes well I'll be released after 23 hours.  My insurance has approved 2 days. My question is, can I request to stay longer?  I will have a 4 hour drive back to southern indiana when released and I'm scared something might go wrong.  Also, I'm sure the drive won't be much fun after the surgery.  My DH will be with me and will be doing the driving but it just sounds like a horrible ordeal! Any advice?  Experience? Thanks!

Dr. Cacucci gave me the choice to leave after 23 hours or stay.  I stayed the extra day, and insurance paid for it.  I was 2.5 hours north.  The ride home after the 2nd day was fine, I wouldn't have wanted to ride home 23 hours after though.  I don't think you will want to either.  The doc will do what you want. St. V's should have a deal with a local hotel and you could consider a night or two close.  Check with the Dr. office. You shouldn't have a big problem wear the belly belt they give you it helps old everything in. E

I stayed an extra day, because I didn't feel ready to go home yet. Dr. Inman didn't have any problem with that, and my insurance paid for it. As for the ride home, plan to stop several times and walk. Sitting for four hours would be too long.

My dr told me 2 -3 days. I went home at 2 1/2 days.  My drive was 2 1/2 hrs. The dr. just didn't want me sitting a car mor than 1 hour at a time. (the whole blood clot deal) He said fpr every hour of the drive to stop and get out and walk for a few min.  We made just one stop on the way home and had no problems.
