weight loss and exercise
For those of you out there that have been out for a whiel I have a question. I just recently within the past month or so have started kicking up my exercise a lot. I find that I'm not losing weight like I was before. Do you guys find that when you kick it up it stalls your weight loss a little bit? I know i'm losing inches but the scales so much easier to read you know?
You're trading fat for muscle. Muscle weighs more (it's denser) but it also increases your metabolism. Use the scale as a guide, not law. Gauge your success by body size, not weight, and appearance. You will be more toned, less flabby than your non-exercising counterparts. In the end you may be the same size as someone who weighs 10-20 pounds less. But your body will burn its fuel better.
Keep up the good work.

I can eat as much as I want...I just don't want much.
I'm ashamed of what I did for a Klondike bar...
Yes I am in the same boat. I am losing inches and weight is slow at best but that is OK. I will take slow loss vs. slow gain. I read an article in Yahoo health that muscle is built and fat can and will stay. I guess what they are saying you don't necessarily have a one to one replacement. The body wants to store fat for energy needs and will give it up slowly at times.
keep on exercises that will make you feel better and be healthier.

Jess, in one of my WLS magazines, I read that people who exercise and people who don't exercise, on average, lose around the same amount of weight in the first year. However it pointed out that people who exercise end up with more muscle than people who don't, so they can keep the weight off more easily, because muscle tissue uses more calories to maintain than fat. So it sounds to me like you're on the right track by kicking up the exercise. It can only be good for you, I would think.
