This is probably a dumb question but since I am spending the weekend getting myself prepared for my surgery on tuesday, I thought I would ask.  Can anybody tell me if there is restrictions on climbing stairs when you come home cuz my bed room is upstairs so I was just wonderin if I was gonna be able to sleep there or have to make my room some where else for a little while.  Thanks

I had open RNY and my doctor's only restricitions on stairs was not to use them for exercise! If you go up and down a couple of times a day you should be fine just take it slow and don't carry much with you. I had real balance trouble and had to make sure everyone else carried the laundry and such. I think you'll be fine. Double check with your doctor. Good luck on Tuesday! Enjoy your nap.

I don't know that there will be restrictions on stairs, but you may want to make sure theres a comfy place downstairs for you to sleep/rest as well because those first couple days home can be tough getting adjusted. For me they were just plain exhausting trying to regain some sense of normalcy.

The stairs probably won't be a problem 1 or 2 times a day. Just take it slow.  My biggest problem was trying to sleep in the bed. Laying flat pulled on the incisions and if I slept I'd try to roll on my side out of habbit, which didn't work at all.  I ended up putting an old recliner in our room ans slept in it the first couple of weeks.  It supported my sides and was easy to get in and out of with the arms on it.  It was harder to pull myself up and out of bed. It also didn't have room to roll over in it. Good luck and keep us posted.  BTW. There are no dumb questions.

Thanks for all the answer's unfortunately I dont have a recliner any more and when I had my C-sections it was the only thing I was able to sleep in myself, so I'm thinking its not gonna be to fun but I am sure I will find something that is comfortable eventually.  Thanks again

They had me getting up and down soo much with my upper GI & small bowel study before leaving the hospital that my incisions got used to me laying flat and getting up! So it may not be tooo hard especially if your having your surgery laproscopically.

Well my recommendation is a recliner that's the only way I could sleep... if you don't have one you might want to think about goign to good will and finding a cheap one or mayb ethe salvation army. That's what I did right before surgery becauwse I knew from previous experience that getting in and out of bed was not going to happen for me. It's all a personal thing... I tend to lay on my stomach and I couldn't do that for about 5 weeks after surgery. Good luck an dcan't wait to see you on the losing side.

I had Lap RNY and my doctor said I could climb stairs as long as I used common sense and if it hurts to stop that. I know I also couldn't sleep on my side for a few days and since I am a side sleeper I woke up several times a night. But, I could at least  sleep in my bed and not have to sleep in my recliner.
