ANDERSON BABY SHAKEN TO DEATH
Hi, I go to school with this babies aunt and she is trying with the rest of her family to raise money for this babies funeral. I figured I could at least post this on here in hopes that someone can donate some money for the babies funeral. I am currently unable to donate because of my financial situation, so I understand if you can't either. I was just gonna try...Thanks to anyone if you can! I copy and pasted this directly from wthr.com. It should be on all the news stations...
Anderson - A preliminary autopsy report says an Anderson toddler died from shaken baby syndrome. His mother's boyfriend was initially arrested on battery charges.
It's not clear if those charges will change now that the child has died.
Police arrested 19-year-old Cody Marling after he admitted shaking 17-month-old Noah Smith-Brown. The child had been crying.
Noah was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
The family of Noah Smith-Brown is asking for the public's help to pay for his funeral. Donations may be made to the Old National Bank in care of Noah Smith-Brown.
ORIGINAL STORY!!! Anderson - A 19-year-old man faces charges after he told police he shook his girlfriend's young son.
Cody Duane Marling of Anderson admitted to police that he shook the 18-month-old boy, causing severe head trauma to the toddler. The boy remains in critical condition at Community Hospital in Anderson.
According to police, Marling's girlfriend left her son in Marling's care Tuesday afternoon. He told police he was sleeping when he heard the boy crying from another room. He said he changed the boy's diaper. The toddler cried again and that's when Marling said he shook him twice before putting him on a couch, leaving the boy by himself. A short time later, Marling returned and saw that the boy was not responsive, gasping and struggling for air.
Police say Marling initially checked the boy's airway for possible obstructions, but nothing was found. He then checked the child's pulse and detected a rapid heartbeat. At that point Marling put the boy in a stroller and walked around the neighborhood in order to get help and find a telephone. He went to a friend's house to call relatives and left the boy outside in the stroller unattended. However, he didn't tell his relatives about the boy's injuries and it was only when they arrived at the scene that the boy's condition was made known.
The toddler was taken by family members to Community Hospital, and had to be life-lined to Methodist for further treatment.
Cody Marling was booked into the Madison County Detention Center on a charge of Aggravated Battery, a Class B Felony. Detectives have requested a 72-hour extension from the Madison County Prosecutor's office regarding Marling until additional information can be obtained concerning this investigation. The investigation is on going.
