My cousin had him and she liked him. Other than that I do not know anything about him. I am not sure which doctor you saw at St. V's, but as of right now I do not have any co-morbidities and a BMI of 45 or so and they are going to do the surgery on me. I am not sure what risks you are talking about. Good luck on your decision!
I was going to see Dr. Huse... that is who I wanted... They I went to see Dr. Kadarubuk(SP)... I have since heard so many bad reviews on them I dont want Dr. K.... My BMI is somewhere between 45 and 50... (I forget) You have to have Diabetes, Sleep Apnea, Hypertension and arthritis... That is what the doc said I need to have. I have Hypertension(BAD), really bad joint pains, Borderline diabetes, and no I dont have sleep apnea... I have anxiety and depression and they said that is also considered... I dont understand why I am not at risk.. He said something about my age of 22. But the thing is my mom was in her late 20s early 30s when she had her first heart attack.. At that point she wasnt overweight at all... she didnt have hbp, I am already having a lot of issues and if it stays like this forever I will be dead by 50.. No doubt about that....
Megan,
Usually, it's required that a person must have had a BMI of 35 or greater for at least 5 years (~+100 lb overweight) or greater than 30 with co-morbidities. You didn't get to +45 BMI overnight so alot would depend on how/when you gained weight. If you were 130 lbs when you graduated high school..what, 4 yrs ago..and blossomed up to 250 with having kids over the last 3 years..then most insurance companies would make you go through the diet hoop first. I have never heard of you having to have ___# of comorbidities or particular ones. Besides, there are others that it doesn't sound like was probably considered. Talk with your GYN. Being overweight, you are a good candidate for pcos and have probably had difficult periods. Have you had a sleep apnea test done? If not, do it. You are female, white, and overweight...that automatically makes you more prone to have gall bladder issues. With the hypertension and weight, you are probably more than likely having Asthma issues. The list can go on and on...but you probably don't need the long list. Find out what is required for your insurance. A surgeon who won't touch you because you satisfy the insurance requirements but not his own, probably is uncomfortable working on a 22 yr old. In that case, would you really want him working on you anyway? I would suggest that you contact your insurance (number should be on the back of your card) and ask them to send you a packet with their requirements.
