I'm 3 weeks out, and I cheated :( to make a long story short, i've had a rough 'emotional' day with lots of surprises. Stupid head me turns to food since dh didnn't stick around to vent with me and went to work out. SO, i had one meal left for today, and ate the red sauce from a can of chef boyardi ravioli. the puppies ate the raviolis, but i had the sauce it was packed in. my only problem "so far" with my mistake is i'm having reflux and gas. i don't know exactly how much i ate either. :( I'm ready for my slashes! thank you!! we'll re-dedicate tomorrow and rock on. it is harder when you have the (what i calll) bad food around. i only have one kid to cook for, and he's happy right now with pb&j! tg! and they come frozen and premade! i'm so lazy!!!! lol I got advice to 'plan out' my day in advance, so i'm trying to get that set up for tomorrow, and get MORE PROTEIN!!! i wish you luck in kickin the cig habit. my husband smokes, and i know its hard for him to back down, even with my nagging. but try to remember you don't want any post op illnesses, or later in life problems!!! i hope that helps a lil! and you know whats funny....i love watching any shows about food!! i'm gonna have to stop watching tv altogether. AHHHHHHH guess i'll be here then! lol and walking more!!! hugs! Amanda

Amanda & Missy, I'm not one to 'beat up' newbies for making mistakes. You make them, you recognize them, you correct them. You go on with life. Maybe it'll help if you can understand why those things are 'bad' for you at this time. 1. Obviously, the sugar. The Chef adds sugar to the sauce (look on the ingredients on the can). Sugar can make you dump. Sometimes, it takes very little sugar for some people, more for others. From what I have heard others describe their dumping experiences, I wouldn't pu**** to find out.  2. Tomato based soups, sauces, etc has citric acids in it naturally from the tomatoes. These acids can cause ulcers...especially in the new pouch. 3. Noodles are high in starch. They also become gummy in the tummy and have the capability of blocking your stoma (the connection between the pouch & the intestines). If this happens, your surgeon will have to do an endoscopy to get this gummy mess out of the opening. I wouldn't want to be the one to have to explain that to my surgeon. 4.  We all know smoking is bad for your health. You are a newbie, so take it from someone almost 3 yrs out, sh*t happens. If it happens to you, you do NOT want to be smoking when it does. Since my RNY (so..not including my RNY), I have had to have 4 surgeries and have 2 more coming up. You heal way slower if you're a smoker and have a higher risk of complications if you're a smoker. I was a 3 pack/day smoker for +30 years and the smartest thing I ever did was quit smoking...and I am so glad Dr. Gupta made it a rule for her patients to quit. Now..today's a brand new day! Remember that all of the no-no's are there for a reason. No matter how tempting that food/drink/or ciggarette may be, your new pouch needs you to just say no. Sherri

Angie, 3-6 months post-op, you'll be able to do tomato products again. As your pouch heals, it can slowly tolerate more variety of things. I tried ketup a little too early and yes, got an ulcer for my stupidity. I have found that I can handle being told 'no' for foods, ect as long as I know that 'for now' is added to it. You may find that you don't even want it like you do now. My number one weakness was bread. I was 'allowed' bread at 6 months but I think I was almost 18 months out before I would eat a sandwich (with 35 cal/slice wheat bread). I doubt that I eat 6 slices a week now...then? Shoot, 6 slices (at 100 cal each) of toast with cinnamon & sugar was a typical weekend breakfast for me! Sherri

My biggest cheat was putting Quick in my milk. I couldnt stand the Protien drinks so drank 5-6 glasses of milk a day and ate 5 cheese sticks a day to get all my protien in.. Don't beat yourself up just do the very best you can and remember why you did what you did..  Refried beans helped me alot at the first filling and heavy.. but alot of protien too.. sometimes I would melt a little cheddar cheese on it. YOU can do it!!! The more you drink the more the head hunger is taken care of SIP SIP SIP!! Linda Kay

I don't think any one's going to 'slash' you here! I'm pretty sure we've all made mistakes. You know what to do, just pick up and go on, and try to do better. Just remember you're not far out  though, and to take care of that little pouch!

First off we've all been there... and I wouldn't think of it as cheating because this is FOR LIFE. You made a bad decision. This is how your life is now and there are no cheating moments... Remember that detrimental self down talk about "cheating" is what got most of us to the point that we had to have surgery because we were/are emotional eaters. It sucks... but honey you weren't cheating you're just adjusting to your new life and made a bad choice, that you now won't make again in the future... that life is over and this is a new day

There are lots worse things you could have done.  We've all been there, done that.  Just pick yourself up and start again fresh.

In the meantime...find other ways to vent frustrations instead of taking it out on yourself in the form of food suicide.  For me, I clean like a demon.  It keeps me busy and works out a lot of emotions.  Last week when I was recovering from PS and couldn't clean, I crocheted a scarf.  You should have seen me...the crochet hook was a blur.  I finished the whole thing in just a couple of hours, including the fringe!

Best wishes for a better today.
