I am considering Lapband, but I am still completely unsure of which one I want. I know I will go with IU bariatric center at Wishard because of my insurance... Does anyone have good or bad stories about IU. I am really nervous about the surgery and I even went to a support meeting with my mom at St. Vincent and now I am more confused then ever about which surgery to choose. I just want to hear THE TRUTH about what everyone thinks...  Thank you

Just wanted to say hello and tell you I had surgery with Dr. Gomez on April 26th.  The staff and Dr. Gomez have been wonderful.  The only complaint I have with the hospital is that they did not come to help me walk.  I did what I could on my own which was not a lot because I had open RNY.  I would definetly do it again. My cousin had Dr Gomez and her surgery at Wishard.  She really liked her Dr and had a good experience.  I havent heard her say anything negative. Good luck on what you decide.

Welcome!  I don't have a report on Wishard, I went to Clarian North (loved it). But as far as your surgery choice...research your options.  I was leaning toward lapband, although my insurance did not want to pay for it, they only paid for RNY.  But after going through the counseling that my insurance required, I realized that the reason I wanted the band was because I knew I could sabotage the surgery.  I could avoid fills, and eat my way back to fat if I was uncomfortable as a thin person.  Food was always my refuge.  I did not really want to give up my addiction.  RNY was my salvation.  For me it was the only WLS that would give me the lifestyle change and permanent results I needed. But you must do your research and search your heart for what you want to receive from the surgery and where you want to go from here.  Give yourself this time to reflect.  Most insurance companies will cover counseling (more than just your psyche eval) and I would recommend doing it before you make this decision.  It was the thing that really helped me be successful. Best wishes,

Annette
