Just introducing myself

Hi everyone.  I am new to this board.  I have been trying to have gastric by-pass surgery for nearly 4 yrs now.  Something always got in the way.  I have recently been approved by my insurance (FINALLY).  I am having it done in Carmel by Dr. Diaz.  Carmel is over 3.5 hrs from my house but it's the only place my insurance will allow it.  I've heard only good things about the hospital and Dr. Diaz too so that makes me glad it's happening there. I haven't heard from the surgeon's office since being approved.  My insurance called me last week and told me of my approval.  I got the letter in the mail yesterday and faxed it to my surgeon's office.  I don't want to call and be a pest. So what's next? I am so excited!   Thanks so much, Jacqui

hi there ~ CONGRAGULATIONS!!!!   on your aproval-i just had mine done aug 8th in st vinncents by dr evanson~ are u excited? i know i sure was then afterwards it was somewhat painful and now a week later the pain is toleratable im not ungry much its very hard to get in the expected but i herd as u get farther along the easier it gets this 1st month is the worst ever~~~~i had to go back a day later and stay over nigt because my pain got unbearable and they said my bowels went 2 zzz sleep they gave me meds and the pain eased up alot~~~~i myself live 2 hours away im in bluffton near ft wayne==you?   well  they are ususally pretty quick in getting a date scedueled my dr. was anyhow ususally its 2 months away so u can attend ur medical xam at st vinncents and  that is blood test ekg chest xray upper gi drink baruium pulmunary testing nicotine test drug test then they will scheduele a pre op class which is all day long with dietician--did u meet with the psychatrist yet? because they have everyone do that also----well anyow let us know -------

Welcome to the Indiana Forum!  These people are so wonderful and so informative. They have the biggest hearts and I KNOW God listens to their prayers!  I call them my "Indiana Posse".  Keep us posted on your journey! I am just beginning...info has been sent to insurance company today for approval!

Jacqi, Welcome to OH & to the Indiana board! Since you know that the insurance approved you, call Dr. Diaz office and see if they got the confirmation of it in the mail yet. Sometimes, that takes a week or so. After that, you're at the mercy of the scheduler and how busy she is. Hopefully, she'll have a date to you within a few weeks. The surgery itself is usually scheduled within the next few months....depending on how busy the surgeon is. I would guess that you'll have yours by Halloween. Sherri

WELCOME TO OH. YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE DR DIAZ. HE IS A VERY COOL DOC. BUT THEN EVERYONE THINKS THERE DOC IS THE BEST FACT IS IF THEY ARE AT ST V'S THEY ARE THE BEST. IT TAKES ABOUT 2 WEEKS FROM TIME THEY GET THE LETTER FOR THEM TO CALL AND SET YOUR DATE FOR PRE OPS AND NUT CLASS AND GIVE YOU A DATE. DR DIAZ IS A VERY STRIGHT FORWARD NO PUNCHES KINDA DOC. IF YOU DO WHAT HE SAYS YOU WILL BE FINE. I AM 1 WEEK AWAY FROM BEING 4 MONTHS OUT AND SO FAR I HAVE LOST 105 POUNDS. GOOD LUCK AND AGAIN WELL TO OH.  VICKI [email protected]

Hello Jacqui! Hang in there! It also took me 4 years. During my wait, I consulted with many surgeons, and found the one I trusted the most. I also took the time to read everything I could get my hands on about WLS.  Congratulations on your approval. :D  Don't worry about being a pest. Sometimes that is what it takes to keep the ball rolling. The office staff knows how anxious we are!!  I had a wonderful experience with Carmel St. V's. I was treated like a princess. It was truely the best hospital stay I have ever had......and I have had MaNy!! I am not on OH much. I pop in a couple of times a year, but you can always message me, and I will respond. Wow!  What a site!  I never expected to get so many responses in such a short amount of time.  I am so glad I found you guys. I appreciate all of the info.  It makes it so much easier knowing there are people who are where I'm at and where I'm going.  My husband and family are very supportive but they really don't know what to say.  My sister had her gastric by-pass over 7 years ago and has done great.  She's been the best support so far but she's had a bit of trouble with malnutrition.  I've heard the changes in the procedure have remedied that problem somewhat. So far, I've had my psych eval, bloodwork and EKG.   I met with Dr. Diaz in March to get things started again after a long unsuccessful journey in Evansville, IN.  My insurance was different then so it has nothing to do with the facility or drs there.  Thankfully, when my insurance changed in January, I had already completed most of what was necessary for approval.  I only had to redo my psych eval, bloodwork and EKG.  All of my nutrition consults and dr visits from E-ville were approved.  Now that I've redone all the other things, it was approved without a problem!  I can't believe it's finally going to happen!
