hi chic...i agree, dr evanson "sure is cute" lol....as for the cheese...that has me confused as well because we're supposed to be on full liquids for 4 wks....so i'm not sure i can answer that...i'm 11 days out right now and have not tried any cheese because that's not liquid....

i had TERRIBLE gas pain in my shoulders and my chest...it has gone now....and overall i'm feeling good...just making this LARGE adjustment...i don't think I knew how much of an adjustment it would be...but it does get better...and i'm confident it will continue to get better....so just hang in there!!! :)

hugs

Missy so sorry you are having a rough start.  Hang in there though, things will get better.  Just remember to follow the diet sheets you got at the pre-op class and eat and drink slooooowly.  AND WALK. You are very right about Dr. E though.  He is just so honestly nice and very caring (yes, and cute).  Each day you will feel a little better and stronger.  As the weight starts falling off you will have no doubt that you have done the right thing.  I feel so fantastic now. would you believe I have had to re-introduce myself to people that I have known for years becasue they don't recognize me.  It is a strange feeling.  As you lose you will probably have a lot of mixed emotions about the reactions you will get.  Sometimes you may want the recognition for what you have accomplished and at other times you just want to blend into the wall paper.  Be prepared.  I know they prescribe an anti depressant for the first few months post op.  Be sure to take it weather you think you need it or not.  It helps in many ways.  I never was on any pre-op and didn't think I'd need it post but Dr E said to take it and I did.  I do think it helped me get past some of those early days when you feel like you are morning the loss of your old friends, (chocolate, pizza, hamburgers) I'm anxious to meet you at one of the Ft. Wayne meetings.  I won't be going tomorrow becasue I'm in a exercise class.  So I hope to see you on Sept 11th.

Sorry I hope you get better!!!! Well, everytime I was feeling pain in the hospital, Dr E would show and I would feel soo much better! but besides relying on that, I have found that i MUST stay on my stomach and pain medicine, mostly the stomach medicine. it tastes horrible, but helps my new tummy. Did you name your new tummy? I was thinking of naming mine..anyway, my favorite meal is the refried beans. i set a timer and put it in front of me so I can see how much time is going by, and to make sure i'm taking enough time to eat. and i take itty bitty bites, and enjoy the food. i know, enjoy beans? but i do. i also like oatmeal with cinnamin butter. mmmm cheese was my pic at first, but i had my gallbladder out also, so i get really bad gas pains with cheese. have you had any yogurt? anyways, i had the same mixed emotions just a few days ago b/c of the pain and figuring out what to eat and so on, but the weight loss has helped me see that I did the right thing and my dh keeps me in check too. Let me know if you need anything!!! hugs :) Amanda

Everyone is right Missy it does get better it's alot to get use to all at once. Lots of issues to resolve how to get all the protein, H2O, food, walking, plus vitimins in.  It has been 12 wks since my surgery and it is finally all coming together one day I suddenly realized that I drank over my 64oz I couldn't beleive it. I had to add it twice because I thought I would never get it all in. Good Luck you will make it soon. I might make the support group tomorrow maybe I will see you there if you are feeling better. It will be my first meeting since surgery I went to a couple before I had surgery. Take care Cheryl

Please take time to ask the NUT when you go to St. V to answer all questions.  They are the expert.  They answer email very quickly.  So don't hesitate to eamil them.  You should have thier email from the visit sheet you get. Before you know it you will be 4 weeks out feeling perty good and will have lost a great deal of weight.  You are on your way and thankfully the body does not remember pain.   Most will say the answer to issues is walk, walk, and walk................ Protein and Calcium are neede to heal and get better i.e. cheese and refried beans. Instant mashed potato with chicken flavored protein powder added.  I made mine with all milk to up the calcium. Eating slowly is the hardest thing for me still.  Even the small amounts I eat gets cold before I eat it all.
