Sorry about this weekend

Hi all, I'm sorry to say that I will not be coming up to Middlebury this Saturday.  I was called to the hospital yesterday for my grandmother.  She has been battling pneumonia since June 3rd and took a turn for the worse.  Although her condition is not considered life threatening at this time, she has listed herself as DNR (do not resusitate) and I don't want to be that far away if something were to happen.  My sister has enough on her plate.  She shouldn't have to deal with my mother all by herself if grandma were to get any worse. My mother's sense of reality is somewhat skewed now that she is in the nursing home also.  Not to mention that it is just hard to watch your parent's health slowly falter.  For all that she says she "understands" that grandma will only live "so much longer" (she is 87 after all), it scares the crap out of mother every time grandma has a down turn.  I don't truly expect this to take her, but I can't see putting the extra pressure on my sister. Hope to see you all soon at some future event!

Cindy,  My heart goes out to you- I lost both my parents 17 days apart, so I understand the concerns you have. Your Grandma ,Sis, Mom & family need you right now- there is plenty of weekends & time for us to get-together! I am praying for you all- if there is anything we can do, let us know. Cindy, I'm going to miss you, as will everyone there..but we do understand and wish you & your family best wishes.  We'll have to plan some china buffet or something in a week or so to give you a night to relax... Sherri

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.   I stopped by to see her last night and although she is still weak, she is doing better.  I have to say that she is definitely a tough ol' bird.  She is 87 and has survived laying in the snow for 1/2 an hour with a broken hip before she was found 2 years ago.  We didn't think she would survive that, but she did.  So, I'm sure she will weather this as long as they get the pneumonia to respond to the antibiotics (she's on 3 total, 2 by iv and 1 by injection). Again, thanks for keeping us in your thoughts and I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.
