stricture/stenosis/whatever

Well,  Monday I have to have an endoscopy to see if I have a stricture or even an ulcer.  I'm a little bit nervous,  but from the other posts I've seen things should not be terrible.   Any words of advice?

Relax and enjoy the drugs. If you are having problems keeping things down, it's probably a stricture (a narrowing of the stoma....the connection between the intestines & the pouch). Ifd you are keeping food down but having pain, it's probably an ulcer. With an ulcer, meds will take care of it usually. If it's a stricture, they will vibrate it back to 12-15 mm (my smallest was 1 mm). They will probably do 1-2 more endo's later just to be sure you stay ok. Rarely, people get the 'opportunity' to become more seasoned with it.... I've had 15 myself.  Sherri

15!  yikes!     No pain, but alot of vomiting if what i'm eating has any more substance than oatmeal....and meat is impossible.   I was reading your other posts,  and wanted to tell you good luck tomorrow.  I'm an attorney so I know how stressful court can be....and I imagine its only worse when its family.

Yep, definately sounds like a stricture. Do your best to keep hydrated this weekend. Court was Wednesday. We go in front of the judge July 18th. I'm at the point of just wanting it over with. I'm the type of person who will help anyone I can...but not to the point of being a doormat. For some stupid reason, Cindy actually believes I think that the judge will let her off without repaying me. I have the emails where she asked for the money, made the payment arrangements (and excuses of why she couldn't pay). SHE had it put in her divorce decree in order to stick her ex with half of it (poor guy didn't even know there was a loan and then get stuck with close to $5,000 of it!). She seems to think that emails, phone calls, and text messages aren't legally binding her to the loan...nor is the divorce order...well, not when it comes to HER anyway. What kind of attorney are you? Wanna do a friend a favor? Sherri

I have had two already. My smallest was 1mm and this last one was 2mm. I am hoping in two weeks when I have the next one that it will finally be done. It isn't bad. You go to sleep and wake up with it done. Then I go home and sleep off and on the rest of the night. Didn't realize that mine was that small this last time. It is getting old running to Carmel every two weeks to get stretched. Good luck on Monday. Let us know how you do.

Alice, Funny how you don't realize how small it can be, huh? But then again, I've had problems at 8mm! If you have to keep coming back, after about the 4th or 5th time, mention to Dr. Inman that you know of someone who is a patient of Dr. Gupta's who kept getting strictures also. Tell her that the way it was finally stopped was by injecting the stoma with steroids. If she doesn't feel comfortable with doing this, she may ask Dr. Gupta to do it since they are both at St. V's. After it being injected twice, I haven't had to go for another endo. Sherri

well after reading this i think i need to call my doc. but he is on vacation next week.  seems that no matter what i eat i hurt like all get out. i been sticking to beans and cheese. anything more makes my new tummy feel like its being cut with a knife. almost like a dumping feeling i start sweating and mouth waters like i am going to be sick but after an hour or so it goes away. i have almost decided to live on beans.. ( which i hated before surgery). vicki

Vicki, Your's sounds more like an ulcer with you having pain. Call your surgeon's office. He may choose to go ahead and try you on carafate (for ulcers) without doing an endo. He most likely has someone lined up to do endo's for him while he's on vacation, should he choose to have one done. Call today though! There's no sence in being miserable all weekend. Sherri ps...For the first ~6 months, try to avoid all caffiene, acetic's (ketchup, tomato sauce, OJ), and stress...as much as possible anyway.... as each of these can aggrevate the new pouch and cause ulcers. After 6 months, slowly introduce ketup, etc to your diet. Continue to avoid caffiene though since it will also dehydrate you & stimulate your appetite.
