post op day 4 with some questions! help
Hello all! my name is jen and i am post op day 4 now and of course i have questions and it is a holiday weekend!!! so i got on the scale and i have not lost anything. is this normal? i was thinking that perhaps my body is in that "starvation" mode and is trying to adjust, but am not sure.
also, how long did your port site hurt? thanks in advance................jen
Hi Jen! Welcome to the board..and to being a Loser! Remember all the IV's you were given at the hospital? It takes a week or so for all of that fluid to work it's way out of your system. Just do what you are suppose to and the pounds will start to melt off quickly! Once the drain tube is out, you will feel 100% better. If it's already out, if it still hurts at your 1 week check-up, discuss it with your surgeon. Sherri

Jen,
I never had a port. I just had a regular IV. How long did u have a port? Did it get infected and do u still have it in? Ports can be very tricky depending on where yours is located.
Also, I dont know how much u wt but home scales can be very unreliable esp when our wt is high. So I would wait till u have your one week check up and get wt on the dr scales before u worry about not losing wt. Im sure u are losing and dont even realize it. Please keep us posted and let us know how u are doing

Hello Jen,
I take it since you are mentioning a "port site" that you had the lapband. If that's true, congrats. What you need to remember about having the band though is that you aren't going to loose weight per say as having the more traditional bypass untill you start having fills. If you loose any weight at all in your healing process while waiting for a fill that's just a bonus. But technically you are not going to loose if any, hardly any weight until you've had your fills. First fills don't happen till right around the 6-8 wk or 3 month mark (depending on your surgeon's policy).. and then can happen every month or so afterwards. My port site remained slightly tender for awhile. It took about two weeks to be able to sleep on the side my port was although I was good pain free at walking about the 2nd/3rd day as long as I had my binder on. Being 4 days post op... just concentrate on healing... and... healing... and resting... and healing. Your weight loss will come when it's time, trust me.
Good Luck
