Ok...so now I am goin through mixed emotions. I am mad, sad, depressed. I feel defeated. I called the insurance company today and they informed me that based on the info they have recieved that I am being denied. Why??? They said they didnt have that information! So I am now waiting for my letter to let me know what exactly they are expecting.... I called my center and they said not to be discouraged that 95 % of patients are denied the first time around:-( and that the ones who arent are just lucky. They want me to continue with nutrion counsling to ensure that if the company wants that then we will already be in the process of it. I also was informed that if it is nutrion counlsing they want that IN has a no more than 6 month law:) Which makes me happy because that means that I am almost half done :) By the new year I could be celebrating a new life:-) I am trying to stay optimistic..but it is so hard...Give me strength...please! Hi,  I was denied my first time around ,too. I had to go thru all the "hoops" the Ins. wanted, documented medical weight loss, support groups, counciling, etc. before my Ins. would agree that I could have my surgery, 18 mo. later- so DON"T give up hope. Find out why they disallowed it, and go from there. Your surgeons office should have recieved a letter stating why, and their requirements.  Don't give up, hang in there- good things do happen!!! I am wishing you the best! (((hugs))) Ellen

I would call the insurance company back and ask to speak w/the precertification dept. I work at Anthem and they can tell you why it was denied!!! Keep you head high and don't get discouraged.

Lisa, Don't give up.  Like the others said, find out what it is your insurance company wants and do it. I went through all the same emotions you did.  I was denied in January 06 (which hurt even more because my daughter was approved at the same time I was denied - with no questions asked).  I appealed and was still denied.  I sort of gave up, but then in June 06, decided to do what the insurance company wanted of me.  I went to my PCP every other week for weigh-in's (they wanted a physician-supervised weight loss and exercise program), I went to the weight loss center once a month and met with a dietician, I joined Curves (they keep track of your attendance), and I went to monthly support group meetings held by the weight loss center.  My 6 months was up in November, so we re-submitted my request only to be told that I could only submit for the same request one time a year.  So, I had to wait until January 07 to re-submit.  We re-submitted and I was approved within a week, and had my surgery on February 20, 2007.  It was all worth it!  Even though some people get approved it seems like with no questions asked and it doesn't seem fair, when I look back, it was probably a good thing for me.  I was really, really ready for the surgery and I was emotionally and mentally prepared.  So, hang in there, Lisa. Best, Donna

Again....Thank you everyone so much for your encouragement!!! You know it was kind of odd I ahad alot of feelings going through me when I heard that I was denied, but giving up was not something that crossed my mind I know this is what I need and want and thats just not something you give up on.. The best things in life are the things that arnt handed to us..we tend to appreciate them more. Thanks once again for all your words of wisdom, I wil post when I recieve the letter and let you all know what exactly they want from me! Lisa K
