Has anyone encountered "twisted bowels"?  What were your symptoms and how was it treated?

I think what you are referring to is commonly known as KBS, kinky bowel syndrome. Surgeons refer to it as 'internal hernia's'. It/they occur because when you were heavy, the fat held the intestines in place. When you lost weight, the intestines now have room to move...and yes, 'twist' ...but more importantly, 'kink'. Much like folding a garden hose in half with the water turned on. When you have that presure, it's painful. It can become unkinked on it's own...and then rekink. Once that the kinking up starts however, it usually does not just go away on it's own. The pain can vary depending on which part of the intestine is affected. The most common seems to be a pain that resembles a charlie horse but instead of being in your leg, it will be in your stomach. It can occur anywhere that the intestines are. Walking sometimes helps, as does massageing the area. The pain can also be a dull ache that lasts for hours. The surgeon, when she/he suspects that this is going on, usually orders a cat scan. IF the intestines are kinked at that precise moment, it will show up on the scan. Otherwise, it won't. If the surgeon continues to believe that is what is going on, she/he wil operate. Typically, the surgery is done by lap and they go into the same locations as they did for the RNY lap procedure. It is out-patient, so you go home the same day. Recovery is 2-4 weeks. Can you tell I've been there? I had 3 kinks and 1 partial blockage...each with their own pain symptoms. Good luck! Sherri
