Colds before surgery??
Hi everyone, I'm a week from surgery today and the last day or two I've gotten a cold. I totally didn't think this was a big deal, but a pain in the rump basically. I posted about it on another site and it was suggested I call the surgeon's office so they could see about getting me well, because if I wasn't by next week they would postpone my surgery! I hadn't even considered that they would do that, but I called just in case, and the person I called transferred me to Heather, who does the scheduling. I almost hung up on her voice mail, but I didn't, and now I'm waiting for a call back. I'm so worried they will postpone me for nothing! Does anyone who went to St. V's have experience with this sort of thing? I'll probably be fine by Saturday... I'm already feeling a little better than I was and I've started taking that Airbourne stuff and drinking my fluids and so forth. Someone on the RNY board said they wouldn't postpone me unless I got strep or an infection, but I thought I'd ask here in case anyone has dealt with this specifically at St. V's...
Thanks for any info. Hope everyone else is feeling OK!!
Kim

Hi Kim,
I went to my pre-op an I had a real bad cold an the nurse who done the breathing thingie said I would be alright for the surgery,so I went in for the surgery an then I had a massive problem with my surgery an the doctor said it was because of the cold, my lungs failed me an I spent 1 year in the hospital with all kinds of things happening to me,so its best you check with them an make sure you can have it done, your in my prayers..........GOOD LUCK.....PAM
Well, Heather called me back and left me a voice mail. She said if it is just a cold or sinus problem, it is fine, but if it goes into brohchitis or something evil like that they would definitely want to postpone. She also said Tylenol cold was fine, just no ibuprophin. So I guess I'll keep taking my meds and trying to get better and see how things are looking next week.
Hopefully I won't get anything too severe!! Everyone who prays, please include me as I REALLY don't want to postpone this if I can help it.
Thanks everyone,
Kim

I had never used it either, but I was going to have my surgery on that day, darn it! I had everything planned and set up, and didn't want to change things around, and wait longer. So I was willing to try everything. I was sucking on zinc lozenges too, now that I remember. Good luck, licking the cold bug.
