Pre-op testing and insurance question

I got a letter today in the mail saying I have appointments on May 8th for pre-op testing. upper GI, labs, chest x-ray, EKG and have to meet with Dr. Buffie from IIMC. Even though this is great news, I am wondering. I have my first appointment with the Nutritionist on May 11 and my psych eval on May 30. I thought they wouldn't even send it to insurance until the Nut and psych were done. So why would they be scheduling me for pre-op testing? How long before surgery do they do these test? I had my orientation with Dr. Clark on the 16th of April and went to my first support meeting on the 18th. Not that I wouldn't love for this to go this fast, but I think that would be to good to be true. Did anyone else have all this done before insurance approval? I plan to call the center on Monday to ask them, but since it's Sat. thought I would ask you guys your opinions. Thanks

I didn't have to do any of that until I already had my insurance approval... Maybe your insurance company is requiring it before they'll approve you. I would call the surgeons office and find out for sure. Jessyca

The Nut and Psych I had to do before approval, along wiht a pulmonary dr clearance. The testing wasn't scheduled until after I had a surgery date.

Thanks for your thoughts ladies. I thought is was kind of weird to get these appointments set up already also. I will call tomorrow and see what they have to say. Today I found an email in my computer that I swear I never saw before......it was from Anthem. Supposedly dated March 9. It said thanks for the recent inquiry through the online customer service ..................blah, blah, blah. Then it list all the things the doctors need to send in for them to determine my eligiblity. I didn't do this. I am guessing maybe the doctors office did. It even gives an inquiry number. It says it expires on May 8 at 11:04 EDT. I am scratching my head here. Any way enough rambling about this mystery. Wouldn't I be floored if they had approved it without any of this information? NOT likely. I am more expecting to hear I have to have the six month doctor supervised diet. Anyway, thanks again for listening to my ramblings.
