It seems little Gwyn is a bit congested. seeing as i have zero experience with sick babies, i was wondering if buying her a humidifier would help her breathe easier? a shame shes too little for vapo rub.

My daughter has two little ones with another on the way in about a month. She uses cool mist humidifiers in their rooms every nite. They each have one and they seem really small. It helps them stay a little less congested. I will ask her about them today and get more info. Linda

According to the last word I got from my pediatrician, you definitely want a cool mist humidifier. The warm mist ones breed bacteria. However, I did once find a very small warm mist humidifier at Baby's R Us that did not heat the water, but heated a wick. That one was ok and it only used about 8 oz of water in 12 hours. Adding moisture to her air at night will definately make her more comfortable. Good luck, Cindy

Can you use the Menthol plug-ins also? Tania

I read that peppermint oil and menthol can actually give them a harder time breathing and can possibly cause liver damage. I've had all the scares with her liver I care to have. I see that they make baby rub (by vicks) and got excited for a moment, until I read that its only for babies 3 months and older.

Until you buy one boil a pan of water in the kitchen.. it will put moisture in the air and help with the conjestion.. also a bowl of water on the register in her room wouldnt hurt.. i am an old school mother but havent killed my kids.. also until you buy one go into the bathroom and turn the shower on hot.. sit on the tolet with her lovingly in your arms safe and let her breathe the moisture. Cool is best but steam also does the trick... 30 years ago they didnt have the cool ones...

Darrah, a humidifier is a good idea. Or if you don't have one yet, something that would work for us, was running a hot shower, so the bathroom would get all misty, and having the baby in the bathroom while that hot shower was running. Uses more water, but it's an option, if you don't want to take Gwyn out, and Daddy's not home to watch her yet. Linda Vicory
