Well, BCBS of IL denied me. They said I didn't have enough notes on medical weightloss. So, it'll probably be next year by the time I actually get the surgery done. I'll still stay on my diet and try to lose the same way I've been trying to lose for the last 20 years. Thank goodness for Wellbutrin or I would be a total wreck right now.

One word...APPEAL. It is your right to appeal their decision. Ask your PCP for a written letter that details his/her observations of your weight loss attempt history. Hang in there. Annette

Appeal, Appeal, you have this right like Annete said. It did take me almost a year and switching insurance companies to get approved. Keep fighting.

Definitely APPEAL!!! That's the only way that I got approved was through an appeal. Ask them for detailed notes about that they need to approve you and get that information to them girl... FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!! Jessyca

be sure to appeal, all the way through the 3rd party review. Also, Indiana law now requires no more than 6 months of physician supervised weight loss can be required, so if they are asking for more question it. Frequently the surgeon's office will go ahead with things like the nurtitional classes etc. while you are doing that.

Sorry Brandy. Definately appeal. There is a website- obesitylaw.com that you should check out. Maybe it will have some good information for helping you to file a good appeal. I'll be praying for you to get this worked out.

I do plan to appeal it. I just wish I would've listened to my gut and waited before I filed for it. But the insurance lady seemed to think that my gestational diabetes diet as well as my physical therapy would be enough to get it through. I had my doubts though. I have been seeing my family doctor for monthly weigh-ins recently and I start weigh****chers this saturday. I'm just kinda bummed because now I'm afraid my insurance is going to try to deny the costs of all the tests that I had to have done to get approval.
