I have had my consult with the surgeon for LapBand. The surgeosn office contacted Anthem and they said that there was an exclusion on my insurance policy for bariatric surgery. They (Anthem) said that a rider would have to be added to the policy. When I contact my employer they said that they can not add a rider to an individual policy that it would have to be added company wide and that this was not going to happen. I more than meet all of the criteria for Anthem. Do I really have no options now? If the company won't add a rider then tough no surgery?

Jayme, I know this may seem drastic but when its all said and done this costs over 50 grand usually for an RNY and all the follow up so its really worth considering getting a new JOB. I dont know what u do or how well u love the job u have but its something to look into. Yes you are right there probably are no other options is they have an exclusion at your emploment

I have seen on other groups where some people go out of the country to self-pay, because it is cheaper. But really, it might be better like said, to look for a different job. There's not much you can do if your company specifically excludes weight loss surgery. Linda Vicory
