Out of pocket ?
Hello all and good Monday morning!
I have a question, especially for anyone who went through Carmel Surgical. It is my understanding that I am to pay my out of pocket costs up front before they will do the surgery. I just sent an e-mail to Amy, but was wondering how this worked for everyone else. My materials said that when they got my approval Amy would call me with the amount I will owe, but that hasn't happened yet. I need to get something from them in writing at least a couple weeks before my surgery so that I can submit it to my healthcare Flexible spending account and get the money. I am doubting I have enough money laying around otherwise! And that is the only way I can come up with it in advance. Do they normally bill you for this in advance or do they just ambush you while your sitting in your dietitian class and demand the money?!?!
Thanks for any info, guys. Hope everyone had a nice Easter.

Kim I had to pay 500 but I didnt pay it till I went back for my 1 week follow up. It wasnt that I didnt have it. I just didnt think to pay it with all that was going on. So No I dont think they will hound u for it in class and /or embarrasse you. The only thing they ever made a big deal about where money was concerned was when I went for the psych consult. They made me pay that before I even saw the little twirp. I really didnt like him or they way they did that...can u tell.
I paid like 100.00 for that and 500.00 for the hospital deductable and Anthem paid the other 36,000
Kim,
I have Anthem (through Lilly's). I had to pay for the little twirp ahead of time too (I think it was $80 at that time...inflation!). Other than that, Anthem has covered everything at 100% (for my RNY, my RNY revision, my triple hernia repair, my 2 perforations, and my 15 endoscopies). After my 1 yr visit, I had to pay 20% of the office visits (~$15-20) that they billed me for after Anthem paid their part. I know alot of it depends on the company you with as well as who the insurer is.

this tinks for me because I have Anthem too but I have an exclusion on my policy that will not allow the bariatric surgery. I too am going through the Carmel surgical center. I am hoping that someone knows a loop hole around this. Also, I have been trying to get in contact with Amy there too and she has been out of the office on vacation so that may be why there is a delay in getting in touch with her.
