Did anyone have to go through a two week liquid diet prior to surgery? If so, what was the hardest part about it? What recipes do you have to change it up a bit? I have protein shakes and powder. Any quick. tasty drinks I can make in a blender? You guys have been very helpful to this new comer.

Stacy, I am not sure what you are talking about. But when just a day before my surgery I was only allowed liquids. Maybe they have changed things but I haven't heard or read anyone else talking about this before. Did your surgeon say you needed to do this and why? If not check into this. Bonnie

my doctor recommends a two week liquid diet prior to the gastric bypass as it shinks the liver down and he is able to do the procedure easily without many complications. he will do it laprascopocly initially and if he isn't able to get to it that way then he will do it open while you're still on the table. he's a great doc and knows his business. i just didn't know if other doctors are also requiring that of their patients. thanks!!!!

I had to go through a two-week pre-op diet. It was protein supplement (drink) for breakfast and lunch and then a healthy, balanced supper (low in calories and carbs, etc.) The hardest part for me was I was hungry. But, the two weeks goes by pretty fast. The protein shake recipe I used was the one with 2 cups of milk, a package of Sugar-Free Carnation Instant Breakfast, and 1/2 cup of powdered milk. I love milk, so that is the one I chose. Good luck, Donna

My brother had to go on the 2 week diet before he had his surgery, but he lives in Wisconsin, and what his doctor and dietican have told him is alot dfferent then what I have been and continue to be told by St V's. He is doing wonderful and I get to see him for the first since his surgery this weekend. I am so excited. I am so proud of him, Bruce has lost about 120 lbs since October. He has caught up with me and I had my surgery in Feb/2006.

Stacy I did not have to do the the two-week diet, just the day before surgery. Here is what I still use today (16 months post op) that would work very well for you. I take a container of Lite Yougart and add one or two scoops of whey protein powder to it. I like the Key Lime Yougart and Blueberry since they have a bit more of flavor to them when adding the protein powder. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery. My prayers will be with you. Dan

I know that my girlfriend had to go on a liquid diet 2 weeks prior, but she had trouble with a fatty liver, and did end up having to have the open RUNY. I didn't have to, before my surgery. Now, after surgery I use Body Fortress whey protien(1 scoop with 8 oz. soy milk, 1/2 frozen banana., & 4 ice cubes blended). If you try this, let it sit for alittle while cause you don't want to have any gas bubbles! I use soy milk cause I am lacotse intolerant now. I wish you all the best. (((hugs))) Ellen
