I had a a bypass dpne in 2004 and lost 100 lbs and in a years time I've gained it all back. I'm not sure why but the fact is I can eat just as much if not more food now then I did before and I also went through a phase of about 9 months where I was drinking mass quanitys of alcohol. I have quit drinking and am trying very hard to lose weight but it isn't easy. I am looking into having a revision done. Has anyone had any sucess with having a signifignt weight gain and having a revision to lose it again. I'm trying to decide if this is the right thing to do so any info would be great. If anyone knows about the insurance requirements for a revision in IN that would be great.

Scarlet, I think the insurance view on revisions would probably be dependant heavily on why a revision is needed. In my situation, the stoma kept ripping so they paid it at 100%, no questions asked. Some however who have had regain issues I think have had to fight with the insurance company...and some even had trouble finding a surgeon willing to do the revision. Many people unfortunately do replace one bad habit with another bad habit. I'm happy to see that you have stopped drinking. We've all heard how alcohol is empty calories. So true. Now that you have over-come that issue, I would suggest that you go back to basics. Join SparkPeople (or another online journal site). Start logging in your food/drink/exercise. Be painfully honest with it. Measure your food. As far out as you are, you should be eating ~8-10 oz food per meal. You should be drinking at least 64 oz of water a day. In other words, go back to basics. Start walking again. You still have your tool. It just thinks you've forgotten it. You may not need a RNY revision..just a lifestyle revision. If I can be of any assistance to you with this, please feel free to contact me. Sherri

Hi Scarlet, I had SRVG back in 1997 and have regained all of my weight back, plus some. CIGNA has approved me for revision WLS but I am currently in an appeals process with them regarding my choice of surgery, the DS. There are lots of people out on the other boards that have been approved and have had revision surgery including to RNY, from RNY to DS, from lapband to DS, etc. Dr. Inman, who is part of St. Vincent's Bariatric Center and Meridian Surgical Group does a lot of revisions, and she performs a wide variety of procedures. You might want to contact her office (she is in practice with Dr. Evanson, too) and attend one of her seminars. I think they are scheduling for April 16th and April 23rd right now. My best advice is to frequent some of the other boards on OH and you will see there are a lot of people who have had revisions. Come see us on the Duodenal Switch board and you'll see a fairly good number of people who had RNY and have been switch to the DS. Good luck, and hope to see you around, Lyndia

could you please tell me what the duodenal switch is? I don't believe it was an option when mine was done and I know nothing about it. Also where is the doctor located you mentioned. I'm currently working with one out of Indy but that is about 3 hrs away from me.

Hi Scarlet, The Duodenal Switch is more of a malabsorptive procedure whereas the RNY is more restrictive. There is a great website where you can learn all about the DS. It is www.duodenalswitch.com. There is also a duodenal switch forum here on OH where you can talk to a lot of people who have had a revision already to the DS. My doctor is Margaret Inman in Carmel, IN, just up the road from Indy. She's wonderful! She works with St. Vincent Bariatrics. Good luck, and keep me posted! I'm always interested in talking with fellow revisionists. lol
