congrat's on your new home Mariah.....I built my house about 4 years ago and I loved fixing it up and it was also around this time of year so I really got into planting flowers. The best part is those first few months were the cleanest and most organized my home has ever been...LOL! Hope I can make it next Sat. and am going to keep they date available....whee! Judy

So funny you would bring up the house and flowers. I just got done ordering on qvc.com....I know some will be so suprised at that...LOL I ordered an aloha gardern that includes one rainbow hibiscus, six tuberoses, 13 calla lilies, one pink tree peony, 12 starfighter lilies, one bamboo fence, and two plumerias. Also includes one 4-oz bottle of Flower Magic Plant Food. Last week I ordered 3 rose trees and 8 mini rose bushes. Im looking so forward to making my new flower gardens. Not to mention what all I have planed here that I will be pulling up and taking with me. Several yrs ago before my grandmother died I dug up alot of her daffodils and peonys and roses bushes. Then when Andy and I got married we dug up tons of iris's at his house and brought here. So I'll be busy doing yard work this spring... I think building a house sounds great. I would love to have a house that was all new...but the kind I want we can afford....plus we love all the old wood work and carvings found in the old homes. We originally were looking for an old home with 5 or more acres but they are so hard to find. we are buying a used house and rebuilding it to meet our needs. I have an appt tues to get the new kitchen designed. Im so looking forward to that if I can keep my husband away from me while Im ordering everything in site...LOL

OMG...I saw the same offer on QVC and pulled out my credit card but then I remembered I'm moving to Arizona in the fall and it would be a waste of money. I love a great old home too, but I did the whole renovation thing with my home in Chicago and when I moved to Indy I was divorced and didn't want to deal with any repairs or renovations which is why I built a new home. Just a lot easier when you're single. I had a blast picking out my features like cabinets, counter tops, fixtures, etc. The only thing I regret was my upgrade to berber carpet. Although it's gorgeous it's so not functional if you have dogs. It snags easily and then if a snag pulls it unravels like a sweater and you have bare spots. If I had it to do over again I would have gotten hard wood throughout my home. My new home in Arizona (Phoenix area) will be all ceramic tile except the bedrooms which will be carpeted. Good luck sneaking everything past they hubby....yanno we women can manipulate easily...LOL! Judy

My husband and I are wanting to put hard wood in the formal DR and the Kitchen but the guys at Lowes said we should go with overlay...said its stronger and has a 30 yr warrenty...so we havent decided yet.... Might use the laminate in the kitchen but still do the real wood in the dining room. We also want all ceramic in the bathrooms. As for our bedrooms I want a nice thick plush carpet to keep my feet warm when I get up at night for that trip to the bathroom. I also picked out my royal palace rugs on qvc.com this weekend. My mom and sister both have them and we all just love them. I got a totally different pattern than they have. I cant wait for them to come in. We will put these in the family room over the hardwood/laminate...whatever we end up going with. Does anyone have an opinion on hard wood vs. laminate???

I love laminate, but you really need to make sure you get that in a good quality because you can run into trouble with the seams showing after it settles. My mom has laminate throughout her first floor and it's gorgeous. (her brand is Pergo) If you have dogs or little kids hard wood or even bamboo is better. Although laminate can withstand a lifetime of abuse it doesn't do well with liquid spills (ie: doggy accident and children spilling). A friend of mine put in bamboo and it's also beautiful and I think it's reasonably priced. I believe she got hers at Lowe's. Also, I think cork is pretty. I'm jealous! I hate my carpet and it's so ruined by my dogs (had 6 now I'm down to 4). Have fun! Not sure what the royal palace rugs are but I'll check them out! sorry to bog down the message board with off topic conversation...hope nobody minds! Judy

Pam, Are you planning this for the 7th or 13th? If it is the 7th I could probably skip out for the lunch to see all of you,l and then you all can go and enjoy the rest of the day at the pottery I need a pedicure and will get that instead If it is the 13th I have my best friend coming down and we are doing a girls weekend together and staying at the penthouse suite at Embassy Suites downtown. I have connections thru work and they are giving me the swanky suite for less than a regular room rate for 2 nights! I am so excited! It has a balcony that overlooks the city and is a bi-level suite over 900 Sq. Feet!! ! Way to cool! We will be lounging at the pool and in thehot tub after a hard day of scouring the malls! Ah! That is the life! We get together a couple of times a year to shop the circle center area and shop the southside mall and stores there. Let me know if it is the 7th and I will try and make it! Since I can't make the clothing exchange I would love getting to see everyone! Have an awesome day today! Hugs! Marianne

I unfortunately am a no go. Eric is off this weekend so we are going to brave the chill and do some yard work. I don't get to see him very often so I am going to spend the day with him. You gals have a great time though!! Sam
