I started food last monday and i much prefer the supplement shakes i was on. everything taste terrible. i've tried tuna, chicken, eggs, fish dairy still makes me sick so i am guessing the antibiotics havent worked completely out of my system yet. so hopefully when they are gone the dairy will be ok again. i dont have any problem getting stuff down it takes about an hour to eat because I cant stand the taste. I am having some pain in my stomache after i eat its below and to the right of my belly button anyone else had that? I dont see my surgeon until the 11th and my pcp is just so excited about the weight loss he just keep saying everything is going to be great now. also one other thing no where in the yellow sheets does it say anything about pickles. when can we add dill pickles. I am really wanting somthing sour. thanks

oh boy....our taste buds do change...maybe that something sour is what you need to wake those taste buds up...

Kathy, It takes awhile to reaquaint your taste buds to food. Are the meats you are trying canned meats? As early as you are out, don't rush the meats. You may want to put a little light mayo on it to help it slide on down. It's going to be awhile before pickles or anything else citric is going to be ok. The acids in them can cause ulcers...which...if that pain continues, you may want to have an endoscopy to ensure that you don't have an ulcer now ( WOULD contact your surgeon's office about this. Normally, post-op, a person will feel discomfort on the left side near the incision site under the ribs. When it's to the right side, it can signify an ulcer, gall bladder, internal hernia, and a host of other possibilities. Your surgeon would be the best person to contact about this, NOT your PCP. ). It will also take awhile before your stomach can digest a pickle skin. I would guess 3-6 months. I know you're bored with the foods you are on now, but don't ru**** You really aren't on a timetable with this. If they were to say you could have chicken at 3 months, they don't mean you HAVE to eat chicken then..just that you could if you wanted to. If you don't want to yet, don't. The same thing goes with how much. If your pouch feels best with 2 oz, stick to 2. If you are still wanting a little more after 2, then go ahead and go up to 3 (if that's what your yellow sheet indicates for how far out you are). I hope all else is going well for you. I haven't noticed you posting much for awhile. Glad to see you back! Sherri

thanks Sherri, i am using canned meats like i said they go down fine i just cant stand the taste of them in my mouth. i found some low carb sugar free balsamic vinaigrette today i am going to try some fish with it. my yellow sheets have me up to 3 ounces now but my surgeon wont allow the starch or fruits. i brush my teeth so many times a day its not funny but still have a bad taste all the time. aside from this everything is going really well. i met my first goal last friday and am getting plenty of water and exercise.

Ahhhh!!!! You have a carb deficiency...which is VERY normal, but not something you want. This is called ketosis. When you are in ketosis, you get that nasty taste in your mouth. Most nuts will advise you to drink either diluted gatorade or grape juice (get the sf kind!) for 3 days to a week. When I was early out, I kept sf grape juice in the fridge and whenever I started getting that yucky taste, I'd drink 8-12 oz of it a day for a few days. When you have too few carbs, your body does not feast on the fat there...would be nice, huh? Instead, it eats away at your MUSCLES! :-0 You don't want that! So...regardless of some myths, ketosis is NOT a good thing. If it doubt, talk with your nut about it, k? Anyway, 3-7 days of juice and you should be good to go taste-wise! Sherri

thank you so much Sherri I am going to buy some right now. my sur has said since the start no starches and no fruit/ fruit juices so i have just been following what he said. I ll do anything just to get rid of this horrible taste. if i cant find s/f grape juice will s/f apple be ok? would this also be part of why I am so tired?

I don't know if apple juice has the same qualities or not. I just know the nut had told me either grape juice or diluted gatorade. I think it's Welche's that has the sf variety...and I'm pretty sure that Kroger's has it. Sherri ps...yes, ketosis can zap you of energy! But so can lack of B12, too little protein, and\or dehydration.
