Hi Debi- When/where/what type of surgery are you having? I would suggest taking some chapstick and possibly your own pillow, comfortable walking shoes/slippers, bathrobe and your own toiletries if you prefer! My doc told me to wear baggy comfortable clothes there, and that way I could wear them home as well! I wore a pair of comfy sweatpants and a comfy t-shirt! My procedure was open and I wasn't uncomfortable with wearing this home! Some suggest pen/paper, mp3 if you prefer music! Hope this helps some! Ajournal, camera, if you plan on documenting your journey, is good too! Wishing you the best on your journey! I am not familiar with your town/area! I am hoping that you are going to have a wonderful outcome with your surgery and welcome you to being a Hoosier Loser! Maybe you could make it to the clothing exchange in April! Hugz Dawn

Where are you having your surgery at? Who is your surgeon? Sometimes some of us like to visit the hospital, just thought if you posted the info, someone may be up to visiting with ya! Hugz Dawn

Deb, Welcome to the board, and welcome to your journey. I had brought easy slip on slippers for the walking. I just used the hospitals gowns since I had the IV's all in so I wouldn't bother bringing them. I second Dawn in that comfy clothes for the trip home is a must! I also brought magazines, a book, and a puzzle book. I was only in over-night but my mind gets bored quick. I found it more uncomfortable to get up and down from the bed than to just stay up so I was glad I kept things to keep my mind busy in-between the walks and breathing exercises. And yes...definately bring an MP3 if you have one. I have my music in separate playlists..'fast country' and 'rock' are for walking and 'slow country' is for relaxing. If you have sleep apnea, don't forget to bring your c-pap. Please do post what hospital you are going to and which surgeon. Even if you are going to be miles from Indy, we have people on here that are probably near you and can become your support angel. That's what we're about here...supporting one another in any way we can and I would just bet there is someone near you willing and wanting to be supportive of someone just starting out. Sherri
