Addiction Transfer
I dont know how many of u can turn on the TV now but Oprahs having a new show on Addictions of those that have bypass surgery without figuring out what made them fat to begin with. Its a good show...they are really showing the ugly side of this surgery. Its very educational...and although it doesnt happen to everyone it does happen and its good to be aware of it so u can head it off.
Glad I happened to come across it.

How are you doing. I ran accross a few people who have had the addiction transfer. Alcoholism is one major problem. Alcohol reacts very differently in people who have had WLS. The other point is the high divorce rate amoung people who had WLS. I know of two ladies who want WLS but their husbands are totally opposed since their is a fear they will leave them. One has won out and has had the surgery a couple weeks ago, the other is still working. In my opinion if they would not get WLS they would both be dead before 50. One guy friend I know, came home one night from work and his wife told him she filed for a divorce. She could not stand all the attention he was getting from others about how great he looked, etc. etc. It came as a total shock.
My addiction transfer since surgery has increased from what is was before surgery. That is smokeing. I smoke twice as much now as I did before surgery. I am doing something about it and I am on a plan that hopefully will help me be a non-smoker in 5 more days.
I really believe addiction transfer is a major issue. The sooner it is recognized the sooner it can be treated or quit. I had a co-worker on time that was a recovering alcoholic. His transfer was to cafeen. He always had a Mountain Dew or coffee in his hand. I have heard the recoverying from narcotic addiction often become very heavy smokers.
This is certainly something we need to think about and talk about here on the board. This is what a support board is all about. Like you said in your post, it does not happen to everyone, but is common enough that it needs to be addressed before someone falls deep into a new problem.

Hey Papa Dan,
Im doing really well. Im down 150 lbs now in just 7 months. I still have a ways to go and I have some great role models in here. All the neighbors think Andy has a new woman...LOL. I feel so great and have more energy than I think Ive ever had in my life. I exercise for 1- 2 hrs at work....on the nights I work and its quiet...which is most nights. Andy has to keep up with me at the mall now where before he walked circles around me before. We have went thru some huge changes in our marriage in the past few months....but they have all been for the best. We are loving our new life.
We have been doing alot of house hunting. We are hoping to move by summer closer to Indy. Andy just has to spend to much time on the road right now. I'll just leave my job and either get a new one or be a kept woman for the summer. Dont think I would want to go much longer than that without something to do. That should give me time to get our new house all decorated up and all the new furniture bought. Not to mention I'll be needing all new clothes by that time to go back to work in...LOL Not that I need an excuse to go shopping....
So how is your back pain doing? I hope its better. I hope you are having luck with giving up those cancer sticks. I hate to see that u are not only smoking but that u are smoking so much. That just cant be good for you. I wish only the best for u and I hope u get free of those things soon. We love you and want u healthy for a long long time.
I think u should come with all us youn'ens for a spa day....think u could handle that brazillian wax????
Your baby girl...
