I am so thirsty I am probably drinking a gallon or more of water a day. I have plenty of saliva, I am just very thirsty. I saw my pcp yesterday and have lost 27 pounds since the surgery by his scales, I go to see my surgeon tomorrow so I will know for sure by theirs. but they have always ran within a pound of the same weight. Am I drinking too much water? Proteins are fine have gotten in my 75 g everyday so far. I so hope Dr Diaz releases me to drive tomorrow. its too cold to walk outside today and I am bored walking from the front door to the back door in my apartment. at least if I could drive I could go be one of the mall walkers lol

Do you slosh when you walk? If not, I think you're okay. I was super thirsty for several weeks following my surgery. Annette

Kathy, I would ask your surgeon about it though because you are definately gonig above the 1 oz every 15-20 minutes. As long as you're not drinking it too fast and it isn't causing you any pain though (and you aren't drinking before/durring/after meals), my guess would be that it's fine. Sherri

the nutr. told us we should be able to drink an 6 oz glass of water in 15 minutes once we were released from the hospital

I wish I had been told that when I had mine! They never gave us any indication of when we could drink quicker than the 1 oz/20 min and so it left us wondering if we were pushing it too. Some changes are very, very good to see! Sherri

Kathy- Are you saying that you think you have lost 27 pounds in the first week of surgery?! If so, I don't know whether to be alarmed or jealous! lol! Seriously, that seems like an enormous amount, coupled with the extreme thirst, I am glad you are going to see Dr. Diaz soon so you can touch base about those 2 issues. On the good side, that is awesome that you are getting all your protein and fluids in during the first week. I honestly don't know of anyone I have talked to recently who managed it, so BIG CONGRATULATIONS on that! That is the major part of the battle during the first weeks, so sounds like you are doing an awesome job!!! I hope that you are just a water "over-acheiver" and there are no problems! Belle

I would check with your Doctor for sure. I know there really is such a thing as "Water Intoxication," which can kill you. So you really CAN drink too much but it's pretty hard to do I believe. Check with your Doctor to be on the safe side. Sounds like you are doing great otherwise!! Hang in there! Sam
