Calling all CIGNA DSer's

Well, CIGNA has done it again. They are once again denying my request for the DS stating it is experimental/investigational. They will approve me for the RNY but not the DS. So, I am appealing to everyone out in OH-land, if you have CIGNA and you have been approved for the DS with them, would you mind volunteering your information so that I can submit it to the IN Dept. of Insurance? There is a form that I can send to you that gives me permission to send your name, address and phone number. It will NOT request any of your medical records, just that you are giving me permission to use your name , address and phone number and that CIGNA approved your DS surgery (even if you haven't had the procedure yet, but you were approved.) If anyone out there can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you - Lyndia

Why do you want the DS so badly? You don't have to tell, but all of us are curious!

I want the DS because with my lifestyle it would fit in better than the RNY. Also the amount of weight lost, on average, is higher with the DS than the RNY. Plus I am considered super obese and the RNY is an acceptable surgery for the Morbid obese, but for the super obese the DS is the best option. Plus I don't want to deal with the prevalent "dumping syndrome" that a lot of RNYers experience. Since the DS preserves the pyloric valve the chance of "dumping" practically nil. For me, DS is the only choice.

Good Luck with that, Lyndia!! I had absolutely no desire for the DS. All that pooping!!!! Besides that, my insurance wouldn't approve it anyway. All of us on this board are RNYers with a few Lap Banders sprinkled in. All of us are very happy. I had a BMI over 50 in September as did many of us on this board. I hope you get what you want, but don't rule out the RNY!! We are lots of success stories. As for the dumping--I am a dumper. If I eat too fast, I dump. If I eat sugar or sugar alcohols, I dump. If I eat some fruits, I dump. If I eat simple cards, like white flour, I dump. It's a pain, but it keeps me away from those foods that put me at 311 pounds.
