Anyone in IN have Cigna insurance?
Hello. I am currently in a heated battle with Cigna over approving the DS procedure. They keep telling me it is experiment/investigational. I have sent in two appeals letters; the last letter was sent with over 100 pages of case studies, including documentation from Medicare that shows they now cover DS, and we all know Medicare doesn't cover ANYTHING remotely considered experimental. Anyway, my question is, is there anyone out there who has Cigna and they covered your DS procedure? I have a conference call with Cigna and my surgeon on Wednesday and I'd like some more ammunition to give them.
Thanks so much!!

I am not sure what a DS procedure is but I have Cigna. I had to fight tooth and nail and even threatened to bring in the Indiana Department of Insurance before thay approved me for my roux-n-y. It seems like they want you to jump through all their hoops.thay had scheduled my conf call and when I asked if I needed a rep from Dept of Ins with me it was approved immediatly and the call was cancelled.
Good luck.

Well, I had my conference call today and I think it went pretty well. I was shocked to find out I am approved for WLS but they are just fighting the DS instead of the RNY! We discussed the fact that Medicare now covers the DS and the reason why the DS is a better procedure for me than the RNY. The doc's office rep even told the committee they work with all major insurance companies and CIGNA is the only insurance company that doesn't cover the DS. I received a phone call after the conference call from my doc's rep and she said she thought it went really well. I'm supposed to get CIGNA's decision in 5 days. I'll keep you posted!
