Vitamin Supplement Question
I went out today to pick up some of my supplements for after surgery. Some of them are hard to find and I knew some of you would have some suggestions.
I was at Walgreens and
#1- The B-12 sublingual seemed to be in 1200MCG or 5000MCG....didnt find any 500 or 1000.
#2- I also had a hard time finding B-1. I finally did, but I wondered how you take them...I mean do you smash them or do they go down OK??
#3- What kind of calcium do you all use. They only had Calcium citrate in the Citrical Chewables....only one left was choc.
Any suggestions to where I should get these and what type. I am trying to have my supply at home so I am ready after my surgery.
Thanks,
Linda
Personally.... I took GNC Liquid Multi Vitamins for the first 6 months, Swallowed the B1 whole, my B-12 is sublingual from GNC, MY calcuim citrate I take in a pill but it is broken.. at first it was broken into quarters now only half. I NOW take a Centruim Complete that I break in half. No more liquid.. Once in a while I do take an extra vitamin just to be sure..
Best advice .. find what you will daily carry thru with.. a bunch of chewables wont do a thing unles you will chew them, I knew I wouldnt.. THIS was a lifetime commitment we HAVE to take suppliments. If your blood work later shows YOU need adjustments,, then your NUT will help you make those adjustments

I dissolve my B1 in hot tea or coffee since it is larger than an aspirin.
I was doing the sublingual B12 (1200) but the taste is just gagging to me, so I opted for the monthly shots. I am trying to get my insurance to send me the meds myself so I can give them at home instead of going to the office for the shot.
If you are going to take Biotin, I take half a 1000 mcg and I chew it with my vitamin and chewable pepcid. I cannot taste it that way.
I use the Citrical chocolate chews and I hate them. I just have a hard time with them and the chewable vitamins. I usually only get 2 a day of each down because they gross me out so much. Why I don't know. My kids and husband think they are both just great! Yuck!
Linda- I am glad to hear there is hope out there for switching to a traditional vitamin and calcium supplement. I HATE the chewables and I don't use as much as I should because they disgust me. This is actually on my list of stuff to talk to my RD at my 6-week check-up.

health stores have them, even more so the special iron you may need...i took it for 6 months but ed still takes it 14 months later,. due to his MG is one reason.
you only need 3?
i still do flax seed pills as well....as well as a multi....hey GNC has some liquid b-12 those lil sub lingual oooh man those were nasty and i had to stop those flinstone chewables by 4 months i thought i would die if i had to take another one of those...lol...
Hi:
I get liquid sublingual B12 from Target or Walmart, believe it's Nature Valley or something similiar. Also can get sub. b12 tabs from KMart pharmacy, sometimes they have to order it, it's 2500 mcg per tablet and kinda tasty actually. Both of these were much less expensive than GNC or other sources and since we get to purchase so many times the $$ add up. Wishard pharmacy has the B1 tablets which I could take whole, they were small. Congratulations on your surgery, best wishes ...Barb J
