Period Question... Sorry gentlemen!

So, even at 150 pounds, I never have had normal periods and I really cannot remember gaining weight when I did have them. After I started packing the pounds on, they came to a virtual stop. But, Aunt Flo showed up a few days ago and I stopped losing weight. I actually gained a pound intially (the day before) and now I am staying at the same weight. I am only 3 weeks post-op and I think it HAS to be water weight, right?!?! I could not have lost 19 pounds in the first two weeks then stand still the 3rd week, could I?!?! I am only eating about 800 calories a day, so I should have lost about 5 pounds this week, instead of just standing still. WTHeck? Anyone have any advice or personal experience with this? I am trying to be rational about it, but it is really discouraging!!! Thanks, Belle

You are fine, and it is water retention. No big deal. What I am more concerned about is that you were expecting to lose 5 pounds this week. Never expect that! The weight will come off when it is ready. Know that there are weeks of loss followed by days--or--weeks of plateaus. This is normal. Don't get so hung up on numbers!!!!!!!

Belle, I had my hysterectomy about a year before my RNY, so no stalls due to that....BUT...I did have stalls as early out as 3 weeks. I think it was actually at 2 weeks. I was told that it was just my body catching up. It isn't really a true plataue until you've been on a stall for at least 6 weeks (which, I am now experiencing!). So...could be a mini stall...your body just taking a breather...or it could be because of your period. Either way, I'll bet next week, the pounds will be melting right off! Sherri

Bella I think Melanie gave u some good advice I just wanted to add that what u are going thru is normal. At about 300 lbs I stopped having my monthly cycle....it was probably for over a yr. Right after surgery I started and I had 3 cycles the first month. I would lose 5 lbs in one day and then not lose a lb for a week...so dont expect to loose everyday or every week. Dont get discouraged...the wt will come off u just have to be patient. For me the waiting on approval seemed to take forever....then I got a date...and had to wait again. Last I had surgery....and Im still waiting to get to my goal...nothing on this journey is easy or fast. The one thing Im learning is patience. Ok last...How the heck are u getting 800 calories in at only 3 weeks out. U must be doing awesome. I was lucky to get 400 in during that time...I was living on unsweetened applesauce and cottage cheese and profect and water......CONGRATS ON YOUR PROGRESS

Thanks for the responses. I do expect that the weight gain will slow down dramatically, but I never expected that it would come to a screeching halt after 2 weeks!!! I guess I was thinking about it too technically... I am at about -2800 calories a day, one pound equals 3500 calories, do the math and that would equal the loss expected. OBVIOUSLY that is not what I should expect at all! Mariah- 800 calories is really easy for me to get at this point. I just drink my 3 glasses of milk (400 calories), my daily profect (100), and 2 cheesesticks (200). Then add the applesauce and calcium supplements and I get atleast 800 calories. Does it sound like too much? I don't know how else to do it and still get the protein in! Belle

Belle, Sounds to me like u are doing great on your food plan. I just ate what was on the sheets and never took the time to add up the calories. Guess that milk alone has alot of calories. I hated skim milk before surgery and now I love skim milk...who would have thunk it...LOL
