Hi everyone, thanks for all the responses. As much as I have tried I can't find any info online about the doctors at the Muncie Bariatric Center. I really think they may have just opened up, but you'd still think I could find out about the Dr's. I think I am going to attend the seminar and I was thinking that I should attend one at St. Vincent's as well, and decide after that. I'm starting to think that the hour drive might be worth it, especially if I can end up doing the lap procedure and be home fairly quickly. I'm also thinking they may have more experience with insurance stuff since they do so many of these. Anyone know if they have an info seminar? Can't seem to find that on the website. I send in the request for info from the webpage, but I'm betting I won't hear back till Monday. I suppose I could crash a support group meeting or something in the mean time. Anyway, thanks again for all the responses! You all have been very helpful and encouraging. Kim :-)

Kim they have several seminars. They are not given by the hospital but by they drs themselves. What I would suggest us u research the different types of surgery and then when u find the type of surgery u think is right for u....Then find a dr that does that one and does it alot. Then call a that dr and a few more and listen to what they have to say.. If u dont know which surgery is right for you then I would go to a few different drs that specialize in the different ones and see what they have to say. Hope this helps if not feel free to email me or ask more questions [email protected]

Kim, As Mariah said, each surgeon does their own seminar at St. Vincent's. You can check them out on here (as well as St. V's). There are several surgeons at St. V's but it seems like most people go to Dr. Inman, Dr. Evanson, or one of the ladies in Dr. Jones/Gupta/Cacucci group (all three are terrific and if you're flexible as to which one does your surgery, you have a better chance of getting it done a little quicker). I believe all of them will do RNY by laprascopic whenever possible. A few will also do lap band. One, Dr. Inman, also does the DS (usually on super obese ~400 lb +). Check them all out on here. Read up on the 3 procedures (RNY is the most common) to decide which you are interested in. Then give the surgeon's office a call to find out when their next seminar is. You may want to directly contact the Muncie Bariatric center and ask questions...like their surgeon's stats & experience. Go there and tour the center. They may be a really terrific place, just new, like you said. Their surgeons should not be new at bariatric surgeries however so get their names and check them out. Best of luck! Sherri

My primary care physician told me to ask for Dr. Jones when I called St. V's because he had heard she had the best results. I did and then I asked the 2nd question does she take my kind of insurance and low and behold she DIDN'T. I then asked who took my kind of insurance and Dr. Huse did so I attended his seminar. I then did some research and found out he actually started the Center of Excellence with another doctor. The seminars as I understand it are free, it is only if you decide to stay and consult one on one with the surgeon is when it costs money that your insurnace may or may not pay for. My initial consult with Dr. Huse cost $225 and thus far my insurance has paid it.

Thanks everyone for the responses! It seems sometimes on boards you ask questions and nobody says anything... Not here! I am interested in the RNY procedure, I think, and I had been reading the OH profiles for Dr. Jones et al, because so many people on this board seemed to have gone to them. I didn't realize you had to go to seminars through the dr. office though, but I was able to get on the website for Carmel Surgical Specialists and sign up for a seminar on the 20th in Fishers. It is even sooner than the one I signed up for here in town, and since it is in the evening I won't have to miss work to attend. I really really am hoping if I go through with all this I can have it done laproscopically. Seems they try to do a lot of them that way...

I drove 2 1/2 hours for my surgery. . .it was worth it, even though only 45 min. away there were doctors doing it. But they only had a years worth of experience in. . . I'm worth more than a years worth experience. So St. Vincent's Dr. Inman did mine and I don't regret the extra driving time. If finances allow my husband and I make a day of it. We go to the follow up appts. and then stay the night at a hotel and enjoy Indy. Wherever you do. . . good luck. *hugs*
