Well sorry it has taken me so long to post. But I have had a really RUFF time of it. I had surgery on January 5th and on January 7th had to go back in because of a leak. They told my husband they just about lost me 3 times on the or table and 1 time in recovery. I was in ICU for 6 days. Then I was out on the bariatric floor for 3 days then I got to go home. I had a central line in my neck and boy did it hurt. Then on January 23rd. I went back to emergency room and was admitted for fluid on my lung. The next day they took 2 1/2 liters of fluid off of it and my lung was 75% collasped. I was in the hospital for 5 days then. It has been a road I will never forget. They say what caused my leak was where i had the vertical band done in 1991 and had it removed in 2003 the doctor used mesh on my stomach and it had growed into my stomach and when thr dr. stapled it shut it just come undone like a zipper. I have a check up on Monday and I am hoping he says everything is going good. I am ready for a turn around. I am still really weak and get tired easy. But with the help of God i will get back to normal.I want to thank every body for the prayers.

Oh my gosh girl, you really have had it "RUFF"!! Gosh, my prayers are going up for you to have a SPEEDY and UNEVENTFUL rest of your recovery!! Yes, you'll be tired and wore out- it is to be expected after "normal" surgery, let alone what you have gone thru!! I am really sorry you had such a bad experience. Just goes to show you never know- thank goodness & God that you had a Dr. who knew how to handle it all. Take care of yourself and keep us posted. (((gentle hugs)))

THANK YOU for posting about your rough beginning!! People need to know this isnt the smoothest road in the world.. YES it was the best thing I ever did and for most of u s it is better that we did it but mostly we talk about all the easy things like protien intake..not complications that could and do happen. Sometimes I look at the board and wonder if we are giving a full picture.. and then I am grateful that you and people like Gail do post and let us know it isnt always easy.. I would feel so bad if I was one of the people who gave a new surgery patient hopeful for a great surgery, the wrong idea if this surgery. It is for REAL. People do die, they do have complications and then again they do change their lives and live happily ever after!!! I for one have had VERY LITTLE side effects from the surgery. I have lost 100 pounds gone from a size 32 to a 16, made some life long friends and am sooo glad I did it. Best wishes for your journey to turn around and be so much better.. sometimes a few complications help us realize later why we did it..Not take our smooth sailing for granted.. and start over eatting again. I too have been wondering how everything went for you. I am so so sorry that you have had a really rough time. I am hoping to have surgery and Dr. Huse is my surgeon choice and it does comfort me that your may have turned the corner and he has got you through this. I will continue to think of you often.

Tammy - My surgery was Dec. 20. I, too, had a rough time. My spleen cracked during surgery. I had an open rny. Dr, Inman was my surgeon. Apparently some scar tissue was left over from my gallbladder surgery several years ago. Somehow it was connected to the reason my spleen cracked. I ended up getting 5 units of blood. I was pretty out of it the first few days but they would not let me get out of bed because I was so weak and dizzy. I was in the hospital for 9 days. I was home for 4 days and began to throw blood clots in my lungs. I was transported by ambulance from my home hospital back to St. V's. I was put on 2 different blood thinners and had an IVC filter inserted into a large vein in my groin that was designed to catch any other blood clots coming up from my leg area. I am 54 so I don't know if my age had something to do with all the problems or not. My strength was extremely slow in coming back. I am 6 weeks out now and still can't make it all the way through Wal-Mart. Take it easy, slowly try to get all your protein and fluids in, and don't expect too much of yourself too quickly. Karen

Hi Tammy, I can sympathize with you on the leak. I lost a lot of blood the first several days after my surgery too. They had to give me 5 units in all plus that crappy IV iron. My veins were a mess! Fortunately for me the only other side affect I had from the loss of blood was severe fatigue and extremely low blood pressure. They wound up having to take me off of all of my bp meds for a while. I eventually had to start back on one of them, but at only half the original dose! You will get back to normal, it will just take a little longer for you than some people. I'm 10 months out now and doing great. Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon. Cindy
