I NEED HELP
Hello everyone I know that it has been awhile but I have my first initial doctors app tomarrow about my weight. When I asked her if I was a canidate for surgey she said yes, but then started pushing some presciption weight loss drugs. I am not sure do I tell her this is what I want or try the prescriptions. I think that if prescriptions worked that everyone would be heathly. I am just afraid of losing a little going of then gaining it right back. Let me know your experiences with this and what you think . I will post as soon as I can to let you know what she said. Thank you everyone
I take it this is your family doctor you are going to. I would ask very directly their opinion about bariatric surgery. Some pcp's are against it. This may be one of them. If you have tried prescription diet aide's in the past, be very honest in stating that...and what the results were. If you view the scripts as a waste of time & money...they probably are. Lord knows, they were for most of us here. If your doctor doesn't listen to your concerns & frustrations...then hon, it's time to shop for a new family doctor.

Have you been approved for surgery thru your insurance? If not, that may be one thing they would want to see. If you can lose weight on a physician supervised diet on medication. I tried the medications, they worked for a few months. Mostly becasue they made me queezy in my stomach and I didn't feel like eating. Once my body got used to them they did no good. I took them becasue I wanted to try them before I did surgery. I wasn't yet convinced I wanted surgery. My PCP also was not infavor of the surgery until I took her some of my own reasearch and then she backed me all the way. People get fat for a number of reasons. Some eat out of bordom, some are emotional eaters. I did a little of both but the main problem was I could never get full.
So I just plain overate everything. The surgery was the perfect tool for me. You need to talk to your PCP and find out why she thinks the meds will work for you. If she needs convincing that this surgery can be very successfull take her some storys from here. Just about everyone on here will tell her it is the best thing we've ever done and would do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck
It just might be your insurance guidelines. Ask your PCP. My insurance required at least one medication treatement for obesity and one 6 - 8 month supervised dietician program monitored by my PCP. SO when I initially talk to my PCP about surgery thats where we started - with medication. So - just ask your PCP if that's a requirement for your insurance because you want to make sure you two are on the same page. It never hurts to ask questions.
Good Luck
