I had mentioned in a previous post that I had cut myself from 4-5 pots of coffee and diet sodas a day to nothing bu****er. I am walking 3 times a day about 50 yards each time.in the last 4 days I have experienced a horrible swelling in both of my legs. they hurt and feel like they are about to burst. I have never had anything like this before . I have called the doctors office and left messages but havent heard back from anyone yet. is this a side effect of taking the caffeine out of my dialy routine or is it the walking? if it is the caffeine should I just make a big pot of coffee?

Kathy, How much water are you drinking?...I also saw that you are on steroids?...are you on a diuretic?...caffiene usually makes you urinate more...I'm not sure if taking yourself off the caffiene is the answer to the swelling but I would continue to call the physician and try to see what they say and of course if your swelling worsens or you seem short of breath or you sound like there is a bubbling to your breath (sounds wet like a bubbling water) get to the ER right away...I don't say this to scare you but I don't know your medical problems so you know yourself when something is not right. Best of luck to you. I am working on getting approved for surgery myself. Linda

Kathy - I hate to say this but you sure did drink a lot of caffeine and caffeine is a diuretic. I bet your body doesn't know what to do with all the water you are drinking since quiting caffeine. Can't wait to see what your doctor tells you to do. Liz

I know before I had surgery I would have really awful swelling in my legs. To the point it was painful to walk. I tried drinking lots of water etc but had little to no sucess. I went to my Dr. about it and she said people who are overweight sometimes have that problem as it is more difficult for the blood to flow and circulate due to the excess weight. If I were you I would continue with the water and walking but make sure when you aren't being active to elevate your legs above heart level. That should help some I hope!! Sam

If you are on steroids that is probably what is causing the swelling. Steroids make me blow up like a balloon. Annette
