I hope your Lasik surgery went well yesterday. I know you were supposed to go to bed after you got home and have sweet dreams. Take it easy today and enjoy those new peepers. See you next Saturday. Karen

Karen, Thank you sweetie! The Lasik went well..I think so anyway. I have my follow-up appointment this morning. Here's the low-down since I know there were people curious about it all.... The procedure itself...it didn't hurt, but there was a point where it was uncomfortable. After experiencing it with the first eye, it wasn't as bad with the 2nd one (knew what to expect then). It out like a pressure on your eye. Then everything goes dark and that part is totally pain-free. The whole procedure took I would guess less than 10 minutes. They have you wear these lovely clear goggle home and give you some (really cheap) sunglasses. I swapped the sunglasses out for a pair of Bill's that coverered the goggles better. I came home, ate, and then slept from 5 pm till 4:50 this morning. I had trouble going to sleep at first. I had one heck of a headache. I don't know it if was from the procedure, the light sensitivity, or what. I took some Nyquil and I was out. This morning, my eyes were sensative to the dim under-the cabinet lights in the kitchen until I put my first drops in this morning. After that, they felt 100% better. There's 3 drops...antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and artificial tears for dry eyes. I had a script for the first, but the other 2 came in the little kit they send you home with. There's just a starter pack of the tears, so I had bought more for when they run out. Just gotta be sure they are preservative free and in individual vials (to prevent eye contamination/infection). I'm still trying to get use to what looks better/what looks worse. I was wearing bi-focals so in straightening up the distance, it made the close blurry. From what I can tell so far, if I hold a book a foot away instead of 6", I'm fine. Tiffany (my daughter) is picking us up around 7:30 to take us to the follow-up. I'll be spending the ride looking around to try to judge how well I can drive sans glasses. If all looks clear, I'll be driving on the way home. When I retire, I need to write a book 'Medical procedures for the American Woman'. LOL! It could be a plain English low down from the patient's view point! LOL! I could spend 1/2 the book on the ones I've gone through and then interview others for what they've been through!! LOL! I'm afraid it would look like a sad tale of getting older! Have a great day you all! Sherri

Glad everything went well for ya! Aren't those CHEAP sunglasses just the most attractive? AACCKK!!! I had those when I had my cataract surgery! LOL!!! As far as the book, you are too funny! I would buy it though!!!Unless I am one of the interviewed and then who knows, maybe my copy would be free! Hope you have a great day and a safe drive back from the doc's! Hugz Dawn

Back from my check-up! Right eye is 30/20 and left eye is 25/20. Together, they are 25/20. It's expected that when I come for my 1 week check (next Friday) that I'll be 20/20. There was a little bit of a halo around oncoming headlights...but there was pre-lasik too. I just always thought it was my glasses. Since I had it pre-lasik, they think I'll probably still have a little bit of it all my life but most of it should go away. The light sensitivity should be ok in about a week too. So...I'm right where I ought to be at this point. Woo-hoo! I drove home & was fine (wore a pair of Bill's sunglasses). I still have a touch of a headache but hopefully that is shoert term too. Sherri ps...Any contributors to my future book would get a free autographed copy, along with a special mention in the Forward....

Thanks for posting about your experience! I am scheduled for my lasik on 1/31, and kind of nervous about it. I normally like to be asleep for surgery. My surgeon says he gives you valium beforehand though, to keep you relaxed, so that's good. I'm happy that your eyesight is so improved! Linda Vicory

Linda, They gave me valium...but I don't think they gave it enough time to work because it was only about 5 minutes after I swallowed it that they had me in the chair. The machine itself is a little noisy...I was glad to know that ahead of time so it didn't scare me. The thing that they say feels like 'pressure' is kinda like a vacuum thing that keeps your eye still so that the cornea doesn't move. It was really the only uncomfortable thing about the whole deal. Oh...beforehand, they'll put little plugs in your tearducts (which come out on their own). That gives a little pinching feeling. But like with the pressure thing, once you feel it for one eye, it's nothing to have it with the other one. Good luck on the 31st! Hey...ran to Radio Shack for Bill (~7 miles round trip) and got to wear the cool sunglasses that I got when we went to Vegas last year. Normally, I couldn't wear them since they wouldn't fit over my glasses. Sherri
