I'm six weeks post op and have not had bread or wraps. They are just simply too gummy, and after surgery you really have to concentrate on protein. Your capacity is so limited, and your body has to have the protein first. I don't anticipate eating bread or any mostly carbohydrate product for many months. Not sure what others do, though.

Sandra, It's recommended that you wait 1 yr to try bread. I waited 1 1/2 yr. I'm now over two yrs post-op and do have bread some (Wonder Light at 40 cal a slice). I also enjoy the flat-out wraps now & then. When you reintroduce things back into your diet, do it slowly and in moderation and you should be fine. Sherri

You are going to become so selfish with your space I dont think you will miss bread.. you will look at something and say... it's not worth wasteing the room. I did try toast several months out but it was just 1/2 a pc.. I am almost 2 years now and eat a wrap once in a while but I end up pealing most of it away too.. What is inside interests me more... Honest, favorites change after surgery.. It is a whole new wonderful life.. A great new beginning Linda

I agree with Linda, you will miss things at first, but then it becomes, " I don't want to waste my calories on things that don't provide what I need". That said, I tried a bite of bread about 5- 6 months out. I actually out with friends and grabbed a piece of bread from the basket with out thinking. (talking too much). It was so gummy and I could "feel it right away". I am 13 months out and I will eat a piece of toast now and then, I eat "south beach" wraps, but still just have a bite of bread here and there. I f a sandwich sounds good I have to toast the bread first, but can only eat about half a sandwich at a time. Everyone is different. Bread was probably my favorite thing before surgery, now its not even something I look forward too. Sarah

I too either toast my bread, or I jsut dont eat much of it. When I have a "sandwich" I have a half sandwich, with just one piece of bread. I'd rather have the meat and cheese for the protein than the bread, and I was a HUGE bread eater before surgery.
